The United Professional Firefighters of Contra Costa County are proud to announce the reopening of previously de-staffed Engine 6 from the Downtown Concord Fire Station.
Engine 6 has been de-staffed since May of 2012, so the reopening of this unit is providing much relief during an extremely intense fire season and anticipated high heat throughout the summer. Downtown Concord Station 6 will be staffed with a Truck and an Engine both staffed with a full crew from today, July 1st through October 31, the peak of this year’s fire season.
The reopening of Engine 6 was produced through a collaborative effort between the United Professional Firefighters of Contra Costa County and the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District.
“The reopening of Engine 6 provides much relief to an already stressed Fire District. At 8 AM the Engine was in service, by 8:20 it was running emergencies and by noon it had already run 6 calls. This unit will help us run safer during the busy fire season and provide a greater level of service to the community we serve. We are very excited to see Engine 6 back in service,” said Vince Wells, President of United Professional Firefighters of Contra Costa County Local 1230.
