Byron: Firefighters Battle Vegetation Fire, Protect Structures

On Wednesday at 1:38pm, the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District responded to a report of a vegetation fire in the 3100 block of Camino Diablo in Byron.

The fire was located on a vacant lot with several trees and vegetation on fire moving towards a large wood structure and a cinder block building.

According to Jeff Burris, Battalion Chief, firefighters were able to prevent the advancement of the fire to the structure and protected the interior contents of the cinder block building while extinguishing various automotive, plumbing and motorcycle parts next to the building.

No estimate on the total amount of damage.

According to the District, a contractor using a chop saw to cut metal ignited the vacant grass
