Current Antioch City councilwoman Monica Wilson pulled papers on Tuesday becoming the sixth candidate to enter the 2016 race in which two seats are up for grabs.
Wilson joins Karl Dietzel, Mary Rocha, Fred Rouse, Lamar Thorpe, and Ken Turnage II who have all pulled nomination papers. No one has filed their paperwork.
Wilson, who was elected in 2012 with 23.48% (11,190) of the vote is seeking re-election after beating out Jim Davis.
In 2012, she listed her top priorities if elected as:
- Moving Antioch Forward
- Promote Business & Job Growth
- Battle crime with economic development and support for police.
Most recently, Wilson ran for County Board of Supervisor, District three where she placed 5th with 9.36% of the vote. In the race, Steve Barr (Brentwood) and Diane Burgis (Oakley) advanced to the November run-off election.
Candidates have until August 12 to file paperwork to run for city council. If neither Monica Wilson or Mary Rocha file nomination papers, the nomination deadline is extended 1-week.
