Weather Service Issues Heat Advisory for Sunday, Likely to be Extended

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the East Bay Interior Valley’s from 10:00 am Sunday until 9:00 pm Sunday.

According to the weather service, temperatures will range between 95 degrees to 105 degrees across the San Francisco Bay Area. The City of Brentwood, for example, is anticipated to reach 99 degrees on Sunday, and then increase to 103 degrees by Monday.

They warn that with a cool spring and early summer, the temperatures will appear to rise quickly and it may impact sensitive populations such as the elderly, infants and those without access to air conditioning will likely be susceptible to heat related illness.

The heat is anticipated to last into early next week and its expected that the advisory will be extended a few days while daytime temperatures will soar Sunday and Monday around 15-20 degrees above normal.

They remind the community that a “heat advisory” means that a period of hot temperatures are expected and that with hot temperatures, it will create a situation in which heat illness is possible.

The public is encouraged to drink plenty of fluids and stay in an air conditioned room and out of the sun. Be sure to check up on relatives and neighbors.
