On Saturday, the Walnut Creek Police Department responded to a report of a person who had been shot at the Walnut Creek Motel 6 in the 2300 block of N. Main Street in the City of Walnut Creek.
According to police, the incident happened around 9:37 am after an apparent robbery attempt. Police located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound and the victim was transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police identified Dashon Banks, 30, of Pittsburg as the suspect, who was still on scene inside a motel room. The Central County SWAT Team, a tactical team comprised of members from Walnut Creek PD, San Ramon PD, Martinez PD, BART PD, and Pleasant Hill PD, responded to the scene to assist. Walnut Creek Police detectives obtained an arrest warrant for Banks and search warrants for two motel rooms.
At approximately 3:00 p.m., Central County SWAT served the warrants and took Banks into custody without incident. Banks was later booked into the Martinez Detention Facility on the following charges:
- Attempted Murder – 664/187 PC,
- Assault with a Deadly Weapon – 245 PC,
- Robbery – 211 PC.
Police said that based on information obtained in the investigation, they believe this to be an isolated incident and believe there is no additional threat to the community.
