A 24-year-old Concord resident who coached the female Junior Varsity basketball team at Berean Christian High School in Walnut Creek has been arrested for having sex with a minor, according to the Walnut Creek Police Department.
Police say the suspect, identified as Catherine Handlin, was arrested on Sunday Jan.10, 2016 after they received a call from school administrators about Handlin allegedly being involved in inappropriate activity with a student on campus.
The Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office on Feb.4, 2016 filed two charges against Handlin, including unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor and oral copulation with a minor, according to Senior Deputy District Attorney Bruce Flynn.
The alleged victim in the case is a 17-year-old male student at Berean Christian High School, according to Flynn.
Handlin was terminated by school officials on Jan.8, 2016, as soon as her alleged involvement was known.
If Handlin is convicted of all charges, she’ll face a maximum of 3 years 8 months in prison.

The boy is 17 he is old enough to know what he is doing with his private parts. No crime if you ask me but she could have waited a little longer for him to be 18.
How come when I was in school, I never had a teacher like this?
Okay?
“No crime if you ask me.” There is a crime. She is 24 and the boy was 17. That’s considered sex with a minor. How can you miss that? I dont care if she is 24 or 42 years old. The law still applies when you are 18+
After all…the school was founded in 69

In the Bible this is commonplace.
This is against the law. She abused her power.
Against man’s law, yes. Against God’s law, no.
Where were all these teachers when I was high-school. I wouldn’t of told on my teacher ..
Looks a bit manly…..yikes
