by ECT

On Monday, at approximately 1:09 pm, Pleasant Hill Police report a lone male suspect entered the front passenger seat of a citizen’s vehicle which was stopped in traffic.

The victim did not know the suspect. The suspect demanded that the victim drive him home. When the victim refused, the suspect pulled a knife, stabbed the victim in the shoulder and stole his vehicle. The suspect fled in the victim’s vehicle through the parking lot of the Crossroads Shopping Center and was not located. The victim was transported to the John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek where he was treated and later released for a non-life threatening stab wound.

Shortly after this crime was reported, a citizen from a west Pleasant Hill neighborhood called to report a man abandoning a similar vehicle in that neighborhood. The suspect entered the garage of a nearby residence and confronted the homeowner, demanding their car keys. The citizen fled into their residence and the suspect fled the area on foot. Officers arrived on scene and located the stabbing victim’s abandoned stolen car. Other neighbors reported the suspect entering and exiting an additional residence on Pleasant Hill Road near El Rancho Drive.

Police say an officer spotted the suspect and a foot pursuit ensued. The suspect entered another residence on El Rancho Drive and temporarily hid inside. He then exited the residence and attempted to flee, but he was ultimately captured in the 1800 block of Pleasant Hill Road. The suspect was positively identified by the victim and multiple witnesses.

The suspect and one officer sustained minor injuries during this incident. After medical treatment for his injuries, the suspect will be booked into the Martinez Detention Facility in Martinez for carjacking, assault with a deadly weapon, two counts of burglary and other related charges. The suspect was uncooperative and has not yet been identified.

Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to contact the Pleasant Hill Police Department Investigations Division at (925) 288-4630.

When you’re in your car, keep your windows up and your car locked! If you’re in your garage and the door is open, always have “protection” on you . . . you know what I mean! Anticipate that these things might happen. The crazies are out there!

If you’re sitting in your car parked in some mall parking area (structure or outside) keep your engine running and outside air circulating. Keep ALL DOORS and WINDOWS closed and locked! If some puke starts knocking on your windows demanding entry, hit your horn full blast and peel out of there fast!
