Is this Contra Costa only or state wide?

ECT Sep 2, 2018 - 3:00 pm

Statewide… thanks for the comment, have updated the article to make that more clear.

That would be an awful lot of drunks for Contra Costa County. CHP is “statewide.” Otherwise it would be CCCHP.

Have you lived in Contra Costa County long? Do you know it is a large county and covers many cities. Do you pay attention to the news? The holidays are just an excuse for drunk drivers. They figure that everyone is drinking so can I. The roads are full of drunk drivers at the holidays. It only takes a group of friends that have been out at a BBQ and have been drinking. They leave to go home and they are goofing off and they hit a family of four in a car, so say 4 people in each car, there is 8 right there in one accident.

It doesn’t take but one accident to be to many accidents.

You have no idea what you’re talking about. If you can’t figure out that CHP covers the entire state of CA – you’re ignorant. It’s California Highway Patrol, not Contra Costa County Highway Patrol. Anytime CHP states statistics – it’s statewide. They cover the entire state. Always have – always will. It’s a FACT.

CHP does have area offices throughout the state. They do have one in Contra Costa County, so I imagine they could very well be referring to just in this county without specification, since this is a website for east Contra Costa County.

CHP does have area offices throughout the state, including one in Contra Costa County, so I can see how that might have been confusing. Until someone tells me otherwise, I would imagine CHP could produce a report for just Contra Costa County alone, and this is a website for east Contra Costa County anyway.

CHP could produce a county report for any county, but unless it says “Contra Costa County” in the report (and it didn’t) their reports are statewide. It’s a statewide agency. This is common sense, and it shouldn’t have to be explained. It’s NOT confusing at all.

Posting the same thing three times? WTF?

I wondered about that ss well

They all must be driving AR – 15 cars to be so dangerous.

Ken Sep 4, 2018 - 4:24 pm

Yet having an AR-15 is a RIGHT, but driving a car is not. Where are the protesters calling for a ban on cars?

People seem to go totally crazy on a three-day holiday weekend.

Drunk people think they are driving a tank and they are ok enough to drive and nothing will happen. All it takes is one accident. Doesn’t anyone pay attention to the news locally and nationwide? Carpooling to a function mean more people in a vehicle. Only takes a couple of accidents make a statistic. Hello?!?!? the message is plainly Don’t Drink and Drive!!!! EVER!!!!!

There really is no such thing as an “accident.” There is cause and effect in every situation. “Accidents” are unintentional while a crash is deliberate if people choose to get smashed and insist on driving. Also, the way today’s cars are built, they are like aluminum cans .. very smashable. Another problem is how people drive these days. The other week, I was on Highway 4 driving with a friend to Martinez when some joker in a For 15- ran me off the road trying to edge between me and the car in front which was separated from mine about 8 feet away. I had my DASH CAM on which recorded the whole incident. I called CHP and showed it to them. They went after the dope. Turns out, he was dead drunk.

I wish they would catch that many a day… And for those making fun of the guy who merely asked the question if this was Contra Costa County only??? HA… Not that funny because I wouldn’t be surprised if there weren’t that many in the County drunk and on our streets & highways any given time of the day… Wish those and all those folks on their phones would get tickets. Or better yet.. How bout passengers taking photos of drivers on phones and turning in license plates… This would bring gobs of money in.. Enough to hire more local cops and CHP’s for our area…

That’s why I stay home during holidays.

I have an issue with the way the information is presented. It would appear in this article that the 17 traffic deaths are related to factors associated with DUI based on the following statement of DUI. But this may not be the case. Can these 17 deaths reported be attributed to Alcohol consumption? According to SWITRS – Internet Statewide Integrated Traffic Records System in 20156 (the latest statistical data available) 3435 persons killed in vehicular incidents. That would be approximately 9.4 person per day. Which means that that 17 for any three consecutive days let alone a three day weekend would be about average. Before any of you go off the deep end thinking I am in favor of the stupid decision to operate a vehicle while inebriated, you can stop and know I am not stating that. I just wish these articles are reported fairly and not always trying offer incorrect allusions with the sole purpose of trying to sway belief one way or another. Because as it stands, 17 deaths for the weekend is close to average, but if alcohol was actually a factor in each and everyone of these cases it should be clearly stated.

I worked 30 years for the sheriff Dept at the main jail in Martinez as a civilian. I processed all the paper work ect for new inmates and ones being released. The amount of drunks we had in intake every single holiday was absurd. Each one feeling it was ok to drink and drive. I’ll never forget the drunk man who asked if he was being released soon, since we would cite and release them once sober. Sadly, he had no re-call of killing 3 people because of his drunk state. Do you realize how many lives were affected forever because of this selfish man who thought he was ok to drive after drinking? California is way to lenient on drunk drivers (MHO)
