Contra Costa County Public Works announced Wednesday evening that multiple roadways in Contra Costa County remain closed and no timeline has been provided on their reopening.
Contra Costa County crews have closed the following roads:
- Marsh Creek Road between the Clayton city limits and Deer Valley Road
- Alhambra Valley Road between Bear Creek Road and Castro Ranch Road
- Morgan Territory Road between Marsh Creek Road and Manning Road
- McEwen Road between Highway 4 and Carquinez Scenic Drive
The closures are required due to mudslides and flooding concerns. County crews are working to reopen Marsh Creek Road, Morgan Territory Road and McEwen Road as soon as possible.
Alhambra Valley Road between Bear Creek Road and Castro Ranch Road is closed indefinitely. Signs and message boards will alert drivers of the closures. Drivers are encouraged to use Highway 680 or Highway 4 alternate routes. There is not an estimated timeframe for reopening the roads at this time.
Given the lack of time between storms that would normally allow for the ground to better absorb the rain water, drivers can expect potentially more small slides in the coming 48 hours. In addition, there continue to be areas with localized flooding in other areas of the County. Drivers are urged to use caution, and keep headlights on while driving during the rain.
Flooding in Contra Costa County can result from many different sources such as backed-up creeks that overflow, drainage inlets that become blocked, levees that break, and heavy rainfall that overwhelms our storm drains and creeks.

County Public Works Maintenance road crews maintain the storm drain inlets through a program of annual inspection and cleaning.
