Update: Brentwood Police Officer Struck By Drunk Driver

BRENTWOOD, CA – On September 11, 2014 at approximately 1:06 A.M., An on-duty Brentwood Police Officer was involved in a traffic collision on Brentwood Boulevard at the intersection of Delta Road. At the time of the collision, the officer was traveling southbound on Brentwood Boulevard in a marked patrol vehicle when his vehicle was struck broadside by a vehicle traveling westbound on Delta Road that failed to stop for the posted stop sign at that intersection.

The officer was transported to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek via helicopter and was later released with moderate injuries.

The driver of the second vehicle, 25 year-old Joshua Juhl of Oakley received minor injuries in the collision. Juhl was ultimately arrested for driving a motor vehicle while intoxicated and booked into the Martinez Detention Facility.

The traffic collision and criminal investigation is being conducted by the Oakley Police Department.

Editors Notes:

  • According to radio traffic, the Brentwood Police officer immediately requested help, but later stated units could reduce their response to Code 2. Firefighters on scene then evaluated the officer who was then complaining of shortness of breath and having trouble breathing.
  • The officer was airlifted to a local hospital while the second patient was ground transported to another hospital.
  • The ECCFPD said the police vehicle was totaled while the second vehicle sustained significant front end damage.
