At 6:45 am Friday, the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District along with California Highway Patrol responded to a report of a motorcycle versus vehicle on southbound SR-242 near Concord Avenue in the City of Concord.
According to CHP, this was a fatality after a motorcyclist was under a vehicle and the crash scene was blocking two-lanes of traffic.

FATAL COLLISION this morning on SR-242 in Concord
This morning at about 6:43am, Contra Costa CHP was advised of a two vehicle collision involving a motorcycle on SR-242 southbound, just south of Concord Avenue. Upon CHP and emergency personnel arrival, the driver (37yr old male from Brentwood) had been ejected from the motorcycle and was trapped under the Infiniti SUV and unresponsive.
Once the rider was removed from under the SUV, medical personnel on scene declared him deceased. The Contra Costa Costa County Sheriff’s Coroners office will be handling the release of the identity of the male rider killed.
In the initial investigation, it appears that the rider of the motorcycle (Harley Davidson Road King) was splitting lanes between the #1 and #2 lanes of SR-242 southbound in heavy traffic.
For an unknown reason, the rider quickly slowed, causing him to veer right into the #2 lane, where he collided his motorcycle into the back of the Infiniti. He was ejected off the motorcycle aand launched under the Infiniti.
The driver of the Infiniti (pregnant adult female) stopped but unfortunately the rider remained trapped underneath the SUV. Due to the rider being crushed underneath the SUV, after he was removed from under it, he was pronounced deceased on scene.
The pregnant female driver of the Infiniti was transported to John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek for precautionary reasons only and was not injured.
It is unknown if alcohol or drugs are a factor in this collision, as it is still under investigation. If anyone witnessed it or the events leading up to it, please contact Contra Costa CHP in Martinez, (925) 646-4980. Thank you.

That had to hurt. At least for a second. Feel bad for the woman though…what a way to start your day.
This was a very sad morning and I feel for the family’s. I witnessed the Harley Road King in the road and the poor man laying on the gurney.
CHP really needs to take a long look at this stretch of 242. Bikes split between the 1st and 2nd lane. This is legal to perform. The 1st lane of 242 in that area is higher then the 2nd lane and because of this, there is a grove ( some areas deeper then others ) that causes the front tire of a motorcycle to get caught in it. Once your tire is caught, it throws your bike to the right. I myself have had this happen to me in this area ( I too ride a Road King ). I was lucky enough not to have a car close enough to get thrown into. Someone needs to fix this stretch of Hwy NOW!! This man was a son, brother, husband and father. My heart breaks for the family.. I knew that grove between lanes 1 and 2 would kill someone some day and now it has… Fix 242 before this happens again!!
I have seen many crashes there!!! I am so broken by this – My Best friend goes from Pitt to Berkeley every day – I thought this was him -due to the time and area .
i’ve noticed quite a few grooves on highways and freeways and they look like the blacktop just settled from use. Those in charge of the conditions of our roods should examine them all.
With all due respect, lane splitting is insane.
It is only insane if it is not done with respect respect of the road and the cars around you that’s why I will not wear a helmet that covers my ears that’s why I do not go any faster then 20 miles an hour faster than the traffic if the traffic is doing 55 during the commute I will still ride the Centerline but not pass as many cars everybody is getting off work or going to work and not paying attention I tell all writers to ride like you are invisible always be defensive as far as splitting Lanes it is only insane if it’s done at high rates of speed
I agree. It is totally insane. There is never a way to anticipate what any other person will do, especially the way everyone is so distracted on the road. It’s flirting with disaster. I see it everyday and every motorcycle I see on the road does it. I never just see a patient motorcycle driver. I hope that I never have to witness something like that. Prayers for the family and every motorcycle on the road.
Lane splitting is flirting with disaster. It’s illegal in every state except CA. This guy wasn’t traveling at a high rate of speed – and he’s dead.
Anyone talking bad about this rider is a piece of s*#t. Lane splitting is legal because if you say in bumper to bumper traffic on an air cooled motorcycle it would over heat and fry the engine.
Same issues old vw bugs had.
Lane splitting would be perfectly safe if dumb a@“ drivers would pay attention and stop texting when driving.
I’ve seen guys doing 30-40 splitting lanes both ways of 242.with traffic at a stop an rev their engines so people move come on…..prayers for the family
I hope the woman is ok. This had to be extremely emotional and stressful for her.
