Tri Delta Transit Bus Driver Recognized for Assisting in Locating Missing Autistic Man

by ECT

Last Wednesday, Tri Delta Transit bus driver Becky Vanderpool was recognized at their board meeting for her efforts in locating a missing autistic man back in October.

According to Brentwood Police, 20-year-old Dick Burton went missing after last being seen near Safeway on 2nd Street in Brentwood on October 28. Police said at the time that Burton was considered at risk due to his Autism.

Vanderpool recognized Burton after his photograph had been posted on social media and had been in the news. She spotted him near Bay Point BART and contacted authorities on October 30.

According to Tri Delta Transit spokesperson Maria Korbay, while operating her route she noticed a wandering young man at the Bay Point Bart station.

“She approached him and asked if he was from Brentwood.  He said yes and she told him that people were looking for him.  She asked to take him and he was concerned he had no fare but she told him she had him covered.  She reported the issue to our dispatch office who notified police that met her and the boy at LMC to help get the boy home,” said Korbay.

At the meeting, Vanderpool was recognized by Senate Steve Glazer’s Office and Congressman Jerry McNerney’s Office along with Contra Costa County Supervisor Diane Burgis.

“I am surprised by all the attention, this is so out of my element,” said Vanderpool.  “Any of our bus drivers would have done that.  I just happen to see him, but every single one of them would have done what I did.”

CEO Jeanne Krieg said, “It is wonderful to see one of our operators recognized for their astounding work.”

Of course, Dianne Burgis will not pass up a photo shot. Just what is she doing for East County? I see no improvements to quality of life or infrastructure. What am I missing ? Someone please list some achievements of Dianne Burgis other than publicity.

Might want to fact check before being critical… Supervisor Burgis is at the meeting anyway as part of the Board.
