Town Hall: Delta Waters Meeting Tonight

Delta 3

Just a reminder that there will be a Town Hall tonight in Discovery Bay in order to work towards protecting the California Delta. The event is hosted by the Save the California Delta Alliance (STCDA) and will begin at 6:30 pm at DB Elementary Gymnasium.

Featured speakers include:

  • STCDA (Save the California Delta Alliance) President Janet McCleery
  • RTD (Restore the Delta) Barbara Barrigan Parilla
  • Contra Costa County Supervisor Mary Piepho
  • California State Assemblymember Jim Frazier (just appointed to the Water, Parks and Wildlife Committee).

The Town Hall is designed to get updated information on the latest efforts and events related to the Peripheral Canal/twin tunnels and hear from representatives to find out how you can help them in this fight to stop the tunnels.

“I am excited to meet those who are enthused about protecting the Delta and working together. This meeting will not only educate the public about Delta issues, but I will also be able to take their concerns back to Sacramento,” said Assemblyman Frazier.

Supervisor Mary Piepho echoed Frazier’s comments.

“I appreciate the opportunity to update our community on the most current details related to our Delta.  There is so much happening right now as it relates to the Bay Delta Conservation Plan (BDCP) and the risks it means for us, it’s important for the community to get involved,” said Supervisor Piepho.

Those in attendance will also be treated to a free showing of Restore the Delta’s short film “Over Troubled Waters” at the end of the meeting.

While she will not be speaking, Oakley Councilwoman and Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed executive Director Diane Burgis plans to attend this important meeting.  It should be noted, she was also recently appointed to the Delta Protection Commission.

“People need to know what is going on with the Delta and the Governor’s plan to get better educated to help protect the Delta. The more people who know the issues facing the Delta, the better we can unite to fight for it,” said Burgis. “People need to know what is happening in order to protect it.”
