Taste of Summer: Temperatures to Approach 100 Degrees

The National Weather Service says weather will hit near 100-degrees as folks in the interior areas of the Bay Area will get a taste of summer over the next 48-hours.

You are reminded to stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and take breaks if outside.

Always remember to “look before you lock” your vehicle.

With warm weather and sunshine, vehicles will rapidly increase even if the temperature is mild outside or “not that hot”.  They remind people to never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle for any length of time.

According to www.noheatstroke.org, 804 children have died due to Pediatric Vehicular Heatstroke (PVH) since 1998.  All of these deaths could have been prevented.

  • Total number of U.S. pediatric vehicular heatstroke deaths, 2019: 9
  • Total number of U.S. pediatric vehicular heatstroke deaths, 2018: 52
  • Total number of U.S. pediatric vehicular heatstroke deaths, 1998-present: 804
  • Average number of U.S. child heatstroke fatalities per year 1998-2018: 38

An examination of media reports about the 795 pediatric vehicular heatstroke deaths for a 21-year period (1998 through 2018) shows the following circumstances:
– 54.0% – Forgotten by caregiver (429 children)
– 26.3% – Gained Access on their own (209)
– 18.9% – Knowingly left by caregiver (150)
– 0.9% – Unknown (7)
