Tall Ships Make Rare Joint Appearance in Antioch

Lady Washington and Hawaiian Chieftain have made their way to Antioch in a rare joint appearance. Both ships are regular visitors to the Antioch Marina, but they usually visit separately. Because they are together for this visit, they will offer public Battle Sails, a recreation of a typical 18th century-style naval skirmish. Here is the ships’ public schedule:

  • 3/1-2: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., walk-on tours.
  • 3/1-2: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Battle Sail, $43-$63.
  • 3/2: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., Adventure Sail (Lady Washington only), $43.

NOTE: The 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. public walk-on tours in Antioch Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday were cancelled due to moorage issues. The 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. walk-on tours Saturday and Sunday will go on as scheduled.

Battle Sails feature real cannon fire with real gunpowder, but no cannon balls. Guests are encouraged to verbally taunt their adversaries. Tickets are $63 adults, $53 students/seniors/active military, $43 children 12 and under. The Sunday Adventure Sail is a family-oriented experience with opportunities for guests to help raise a sail, learn a sea shanty, and take the helm of a real tall ship, conditions permitting. Tickets are $43 all ages. Purchase tickets for the Battle Sails or the Adventure Sail online or call 800-200-5239. Early reservations are strongly recommended.

Walk-on tours feature crew in period costumes. The public is welcome to explore the ships and speak to the crews about their educational mission. A $3 donation per person is appreciated. Reservations are not required.

Specially designed three-hour and one-hour hands-on living history programs are available for K-12 classrooms. Schools designated Title I by the U.S. Dept. of Education are eligible for large discounts. For information, call the Historical Seaport at 800-200-5239.
