Here is a look at events in East Contra Costa County this weekend.


8:00 am: Billetproof Car Show

20 years of blood, sweat and gears!! Billetproof is back with one-of-a-kind events, live bands, great vendors, and the sickest 64 and prior do-it-yourself traditional rods, kustoms and motorcycles on the planet. We will be limiting attendance to 1000 vehicles, so register early! There will be no exceptions this year.

9:00 am: Antioch Coastal Cleanup Day

For more than thirty years citizens of all ages have joined together one day each year to clean the coast and waterways that are a big part of California’s landscape.  It is the state’s largest annual volunteer event – California Coastal Cleanup Day, and this year it takes place on Saturday, September 17, 2016 from 9:00am to Noon.

Antioch has three sites where individuals, families, and groups can pitch in and pick up litter and other debris that ends up on our shoreline and in our creeks:

  • The Antioch Marina
  • Antioch Water Park
  • Fulton Shipyard Road at the Red Caboose.

Volunteers can register in advance at the Clean Up website http://www.coastal.ca.gov/publiced/ccd/cleanup or just drop in at one of the sites and complete your registration on the day of the event.  It’s that easy!

9:00 am: Friends of Marsh Creek Cleanup Day

Contra Costa— The Friends of Marsh Creek Watershed (FOMCW) is proud to announce that Marsh Creek Cleanup Day will take place on Saturday, September 17th , from 9 am to Noon at 7 different locations along Marsh Creek, its tributaries & the San Joaquin Delta. Volunteers will clean trash and debris from nearly 15 miles of creek and about 5 miles of shoreline.

There will be four cleanup sites in Brentwood:

  • Creekside Park on Crescent Way off of Balfour
  • Central Blvd at Trail Parking Lot
  • The end of Rosebrook Terrace next to Ron Nunn School
  • Homecoming Park

There will be two sites related to the cleanup:

  • Creekside Park on Creekside Way off of Laurel
  • Cypress Ave Bridge

There will be one site in Discovery Bay:

  • Kellogg Creek Bridge on Newport

9:00 am: Bethel Island 50’s Bash (Saturday & Sunday)
Join the Bethel Island Chamber of Commerce as they host their 50’s bash this weekend. Saturday includes a car show, street vendors and events in the park. They will also host catfish races both days. On Sunday, they will host a decorated golf cart and bicycle parade along with rubber ducky races. Kids play area along with activities and games.

11:00 am: Heart of Oakley Festival
The 4th Annual Heart of Oakley Festival which will be held on Saturday, September 17th from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. Admission and parking are free!

More than 50 vendors will be on hand, including popular booths such as Thirty-One Gifts, Scentsy, Stella and Dot, Avon, Mary Kay and more. Hand crafted jewelry, clothing and metal art will be on sale. A variety of service organizations will be on site with giveaways and information about their services.

Food vendors to tempt your taste buds will offer BBQ, gourmet sliders, Philly cheesesteak sandwiches, lumpia, garlic fries, pizza, shaved ice, funnel cakes, kettle corn, lemonade and
the list goes on. A variety of wine made using locally grown grapes from sponsoring wineries will be featured. Be sure to stop by to sample wine from Three Wine Company, Lucca Winery and Wedl Wine Cellars featuring Mad John’s Zinful Sangria. Not a wine aficionado? The Friends of Oakley will offer micro-brews from Imperial Brewing Café with proceeds to help fund their programs including the popular Christmas Basket Program.

A FREE “ Kids Zone” will include a jump house, glitter tattoos, arts & crafts and games.

Free parking will be available at the following locations: Main Street and Gardenia, Main Street and Norcross, Oakley Elementary School and Vintage Park Elementary Schools.


12:00 pm: Delta Blues Festival

The public is invited to attend the 18th Annual Delta Blues Festival from 12:00 pm to 7:00 pm in downtown Antioch at Waldie Plaza. For events and bios of the artist to perform visit the line up page.


12:00 pm to 4:30 pm: Black Diamond Mind Tour
Free, self-guided tours! Explore about 1,000 feet underground and discover the world of the miner.

Must be 7+ years of age to tour the mine. Activities for younger children will be available outside the mine. People of all ages and dogs are welcome to visit the (underground) Greathouse Visitor Center.

12:00 pm: Patriot Jet Team Foundation Aviation & Aerospace Career Fair

On Saturday, students are invited to visit the Patriot Jet Team Foundation as they host an Aviation & Aerospace Career Fair.

The event will occur between Noon to 4:00 pm at the PJTF Learning Center (760 Osprey Court, Byron Airport).  The event is open to Middle School and High School students along with parents and teachers.

Attendees will be able to talk with pilots, maintainers, air traffic controllers, engineers, and others about their careers. Meet students with similar interests and tour the PJTFs’ learning center. Attendees will also be able to see the Patriots Jet Team prepare for its next airshow.

1:00 pm: Brentwood Beer Fest
The Downtown Brentwood Craft Beer Festival will be held from 1pm to 5pm on September 17, at the Brentwood Community Center.

Hosted by the Brentwood Chamber of Commerce, the event will allow you to sample locally made, artisan craft brews from 20-breweries with over 40 different beers to sample. The event will also feature food available for purchase, outdoor beer garden, music, and a home brewer competition.

There are limited tickets remaining to this event which has sold out the past two years. Tickets are $30.00 Per Person and $40.00 at the door if it is not sold out. If you are a designated driver and wish to attend, tickets are $5.00.

6:30 pm: Antioch Speedway
Join the Antioch Speedway as they host a night of racing that includes Late Models, Winged 360 Sprints, A Mods, B Mods, Dwarf Cars, Hobby Stocks. Gates open at 5:00 pm.

El Campanil Theatre wants to encourage new patrons to discover our wonderful foreign film series.

Dorottya is a young Hungarian actress with a burning desire: to make it on the English stage. Legendary actor Sir Michael Gifford suffers from an incurable disease, and has one desire: be left alone. When Dorottya becomes his carer they both hope their wish will be fulfilled.
