Senator Scott Wilk: B.S. Budget Round 3

by ECT

SACRAMENTO – Senate Republican Leader Scott Wilk (R-Santa Clarita) released the following statement in response to the party-line passage of a new spending plan for California:

“B.S. budget, round 3. The governor again invests in himself with Band-Aids and buyoffs that sweep real problems under the rug. Senate Republicans proposed logical solutions that would have helped ordinary Californians by saving businesses, protecting jobs, reforming EDD, establishing a Gas Tax Holiday, and bringing accountability to wildfire,” said Senate Republican Leader Wilk.

Editors note – Full Remarks

“We have heard the word historic tonight about this budget and honestly its historic in the opportunity that we have lost. When I view this budget, I think of two things, I think of band-aids and buyoffs. This budget is not investing in ordinary Californians, its investing in the governors short-term political future to the long-term determinate of all Californians. You know, us Senate Republicans, we offered logical solutions that would have helped ordinary Californians by saving small businesses, protecting jobs, reforming EDD, establishing a gas tax holiday and bringing accountability to wildfire. But we were shut out from the process. I want to remind you we get picked on a lot on this floor because there is only 9 of us, but we represent a million people each—that is 9 million people. That is the same size as the State of New Jersey. Us as a Republican caucus, we have 10 electoral votes if we were our own state. We could have done more, is there good things in this bill, of course there is when you spend this kind of money there has to be, but I been up here like my colleague from Stockton 9-years now but I am telling you right now, its not going to be today, its not going to be tomorrow, its not going to be next week, but this is déjà vu all over again because a few years from now we are going to be back at the same place. Higher taxes and then having to cut programs because we don’t have a sustainable pathway forward. This budget actually makes me sad, it doesn’t make me happy and I know there is a big effort into it, but its not going to get the job done for all Californians,” said Wilk while on the floor.
