SB 58: “Nightlife Bill” Changed in Committee, Bars Could Stay Open Until 3:00 AM

by ECT

Senator Scott Wiener announced Tuesday that last week, the Assembly Appropriations Committee changed Senate Bill 58 to where bars in 10 California cities would stay open until 3:00 am.

Originally, SB 58 would keep bars open until 4:00 am under a 5-year pilot program– a similar bill was vetoed by Governor Jerry Brown last year.  Back on May 21, the bill passed the State Senate in a 29-6 vote with Senator Steve Glazer supporting the bill.

According to Wiener, CHP wanted the change.

While we wanted 4, 3 is much better than the current statewide 2 am shutdown This‘ll be the 1st extension of nightlife in CA in >100 years!” said Wiener on social media.

Wiener should check your headline story.

This bill does not serve the public good. It is quite obviously designed to benefit bar owners and no one else. Wiener is a hypocrite.
