East Contra Costa has a couple of events going on today that we wanted to highlight and make our readers aware of as we head into the holiday season.

Discovery Bay Turkey Trot 5k
Beginning at 9am, the Discovery Bay Elementary School PTA and a running club will host the Inaugural Discovery Bay Turkey Trot  at Cornell Park located at 505 Discovery Bay Blvd in Discovery Bay. The event is expected to be held between 9:00am – 11:00am.

Contra Costa Open Studios November 16 and 17

East County artists welcome the public into their studios the weekend of November 16 and 17 as part of the Contra Costa Open Studios event. Visitors will have the rare chance to go behind the scenes and see artists at work, enjoy a wide variety of original fine art and shop for creative, hand-crafted gifts.

33 artists and 13 studios are participating, with locations in Antioch, Brentwood, Discovery Bay and Oakley. Art on display will include drawings, paintings, sculpture, ceramics, jewelry, hand-painted night lights, knitted hats, cards, prints and more.

Each location will have its own unique personality, so visitors are encouraged to plan a fun day of studio-hopping. Most locations will be open Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. but some hours will vary. Admission is free.

Car Show: 7th Annual Toy Drive for Spectrum Learning Center

The Untouchables and Sicc Syde car clubs are hosting its 7th annual toy drive for the Spectrum learning center in Pittsburg located at 2921 Harbor Street . The event will have jumpers for the kids, prizes, raffles, tv, bbq set, gift certificates, we will also be giving out trophies in all categories  This is a family orientated event, bring the family down and enjoy some nice cars on display. Registration begins at 8:00 am with the car from 10-3pm.

East County Little League Signups
ECLL has partnered up with Fishes and Loafs of Contra Costa County to help the Community of Oakley during these holiday seasons…
Bring 3 or more Non-Perishable items to receive an additional $5 off the already $20 early bird savings for the month of November. You can receive a total of $25 off one registration. At the same time you are helping the community that is less fortunate.
See you at sign ups Nov 14th and 16th. Signups are being held at Ironhouse School in Oakley.

Oakley Chamber of Commerce Business Expo
10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Oakley Comfort Suites where you can learn more about local business as they will be showcasing their services and products.

 

Friends of Oakley Christmas Basket Sign up Program
Sign ups for the third day
will be held between 4-7 pm or until they reach 300 families. Location for sign ups will be held at the City of Oakley White House Community Annex 204 Second Street, Oakley. Oakley families in need of assistance with a holiday meal and toys. Registered families will receive a turkey, additional food, and a wrapped toy for each child through age 17 in the family. Families must bring either a water or power bill with the family name as proof of Oakley residence to register as well as a name and address matching State of California driver’s license or identification card. Friends of Oakley will consider special circumstances. The Oakley Christmas Basket distribution will take place on the afternoon of Saturday, December 14th. Questions? Call 925-625-5745.

 

Brentwood Rotary: 1st Annual PolioPlus Bowling Tournament

The Brentwood Rotary and high school students from local interact clubs are partnering with Harvest Park Bowl to host an event to help raise money to fight Polio Saturday night at 5000 Balfour Rd, Brentwood, CA 94513

The event takes place beginning at 4:00 pm where teams of 4-5 will bowl while players are being asked to raise $25 to participate. 100% of the proceeds will be given to the Rotary Foundation PolioPlus program to help eradicate Polio around the world.
