Lumpy’s Diner has found a delicious way to support those in need while continuing to give back to the community. This Saturday,  Lumpy’s Diner will be hosting its Annual Burger Eating Contest and Car Show to raise money for kids with developmental disabilities.

There is a $40 entry fee to the contest and all contestants receive a hat and a tee shirt.  This event is awarding big prizes.  First place wins $1000 and a huge trophy, second place wins $250 and third place wins $100.  All of the cost for the event; including the cash awards, are out of Lumpy’s own pocket.

“This is just one of the ways I can give back to the community that supports my family owned business,” says Lumpy.

Lumpy’s Diner Annual Burger Eating Contest already has quite a history that has sent one contestant to pursue a professional eating career. Last year’s winner, Nader, ate 12 burgers.

“The cool thing is a tiny woman, Stephanie, who was barely taller than the trophy, still holds the record for most burgers ever eaten at our contest… 13,” says Lumpy. “It was pretty incredible to watch.” Matt Stoney, who started his professional eating career with Lumpy’s Diner, won Lumpy’s 2nd annual contest. He took second place this year at Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest.

This is one event where things may get messy.

According to Lumpy, the mess usually has to do with individual personalities. Some stack their food neatly and eat methodically. Others just scarf down as much as they can and let the pieces fly where they may. Some use the technique of dipping their burgers in water, and others take big bites and use the water to wash everything down.

Besides the burger contest, there will be a ton of activities for families to enjoy.  A DJ will be playing music, there will be a live band, a petting zoo for the kids, face painting, a coloring contest, a jumpy house, and of course, the burger eating contest and car show. The kid’s events and car show start at 4pm. The kids contest begins at 6:30pm and the main event (adult contest) begins at 7:00pm. Lumpy encourages people to arrive early to enjoy all of the family fun.

If you don’t want to enter the contest, you can join in Lumpy’s Beards for Bucks. You can buy a shirt for $20, grow your beard and collect donations to shave it, show up at the Burger Eating Contest and Car show, then Lumpy’s will shave your beard off. Anyone can buy a tee shirt or drop off donations by visiting Lumpy’s Diner on or before October 5th.

Lumpy’s Diner is making this event all about the kids. They had Beards for Bucks tee-shirts made to help spread awareness and want to make this event their biggest fundraiser ever.  They are putting this event together for the community to come together and support amazing kids who struggle with things we take for granted.

Lumpy’s Diner is located at 5891 Lone Tree Way in Antioch.  For more information call (925) 778-5867 or visit WWW.GOTLUMPYS.COM.
