On Saturday June 22, Brentwood residents experienced some excitement as the Police Department blocked off Minnesota Avenue and a portion of Sand Creek Road after a report of high pressure Chevron gas line leak in the area of Yadley Place.

The incident began about 8:15 pm after a ten foot diameter “wet” spot was in the soil next to the railroad tracks just north of Sand Creek.

Fire personnel and Contra Costa County Hazmat responded and tested the soil.

The cause for concern was Chevron had recently conducted repair of their gas line which contained unleaded fuel that runs along the railroad tracks. Luckily, upon Hazmats tests of the soil, it came back negative for any type of fuel.

Ultimately, it was later determined that two-months ago when Chevron was repairing this line, they accidentally broke a nearby water line belonging to the East Contra Costa Irrigation District. The wet spot turned out to be water.

No one was evacuated during the incident, but Sand Creek Road between O’Hara Avenue and Minnesota was shut down for two-hours.

This is a fine example of Brentwood being on the ball to ensure public’s safety with a quick response to a potential major issue highlighting Police, Fire, and Hazmat working together to ensure the community’s safety.
