The Antioch Relay for Life event returned to Antioch this weekend after years at Los Medanos College in Pittsburg. The event had 71 teams with 507 participants. According to its website Monday morning, they raised $68,700 which likely increased over the weekend.

Hats off to Richard Pagano for his opening speech who spoke about his family’s experience with cancer and how it taught him about hope and never giving up. He shared how the experience was exhausting, but hit taught him not only patience and compassion, but also respect for those not fortunate enough to have a large family to help assist someone with cancer.

“At Relay for Life, we have to honor those who have gone before us and celebrate the courage and strength of those who continue to battle each day. This is an opportunity for all of us whether fighting cancer as a patient or as a caregiver or fighting some other disease, to come together as a community,” said Pagano.

Here are a few pictures from the survivor lap and opening lap on Saturday morning.
