Santa Cruz Police Hand Out 7 Shelter-in-Place Violations

by ECT

The Santa Cruz Police Department took to social media on Saturday highlighting how they issued a $1,000 fine each to seven individuals from Fremont for entering the city during a shelter-in-place order.

The police department tweeted out:

7 x $1000 = One Expensive Hang Out
Last night, seven visitors from Fremont were hanging out at 7-11 on Ocean Street. Not smart. Everyone should know by now that this is not the time to meetup and party. Officers cited seven $1000 tickets for Shelter In Place Violations to help these guys remember their time in Santa Cruz.

The police department later said:

COVID-19 is serious, and we ask that community members follow the State of California stay at home order. Santa Cruz County Health Officials have ordered the temporary closure of ALL parks and beaches in the county through April 15.

“The order is necessary to reduce the public health and safety threat from novel coronavirus, or COVID-19, due to crowding in recreational spaces throughout Santa Cruz County,” county officials explained.

Any violation of the order is a misdemeanor punishable by citation or arrest, with fines of up to $1,000.

The fine came after Governor Gavin Newsom shut down state beaches and state parks.

Violating the order is a violation of the Health and safety code and is a misdemeanor with a fine ranging from $50 to $1,000 and possible imprisonment sentence of up to 90-days.

It appears that the popo didn’t have them 6+feet apart. It’s just a way to show his power over the peasants.

I’m very pro law enforcement but let me just say that I think any officer enforcing these unconstitutional emergencies laws should loose their job. They took an oath to uphold the constitution, and soo many are throwing their oath under the bus for some common cold and a power hungry governor.

It’s always nice to read criticism from people who can’t spell or understand basic grammar. So the cops should “ loose” their jobs? And just where should they loose them?

So you think police officers should risk their jobs by not enforcing laws/codes that have been legally put in place? The problem is the violators. Rules are rules. If you violate rules then there are consequences. Its pretty simple. Wise up!!

George….good one pointing out that my auto correct is still working, and they should “loose” their jobs from the agency they are employed by.

That Dumb Guy…once they violate their oaths, they should be fired. Read the Constitution and review an oath that a police officer/military takes. Spells everything out pretty clearly. There are no previsions for “when an illness happens, it’s ok to violate these rights.”

That Dumb Guy…look up the Nuremberg Trials, a perfect example to police officers, judges, and politicians that made their own laws and followed corrupt laws, that resulted in a massive surge in deaths.

Please read about it and know that if we allow our government to violate our rights, this could very well happen to us too.

History repeats itself and for you must, for yourself, always look for what’s right and wrong. It all starts somewhere…

That guy getting dumber!!! Apr 14, 2020 - 8:48 am

That Guy is clearly too stupid to understand!! No shortage of idiots on this site!!

The police officer in control of those they cited should also be cited for not placing them a safe distance apart as he had control of suspects detained and a responsibility to protect the subjects. Practice what you preach. Law enforcement sometimes out steps it’s own boundaries with no accountability. I see this all the time. Sad our rights and liberties are eroding by the far left actions.
