Stockton, CA – With a shovel in hand, Congressman Jerry McNerney (CA-09) joined representatives from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Palo Alto Health Care System, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and community leaders for a groundbreaking ceremony Friday, marking a significant milestone in the construction of the new VA Community-Based Outpatient Clinic in French Camp.

“Today was a major win for the veterans of our community,” said Congressman McNerney. “This groundbreaking reinforces that we are making progress in the fight to get our veterans the healthcare services they deserve. This has been a long time coming, and we still have a ways to go, but we have not and will not waiver on our commitment to the men and women who’ve served our country.”
Since coming to Congress, Congressman McNerney has led the efforts for the development of the new French Camp clinic, and over the years, he’s met with veterans who have shared their stories about the need for closer access to healthcare services. He spent the day with a Stockton veteran, traveling to and from the VA in Palo Alto, and experienced firsthand the arduous eight-hour journey that local veterans often undertake to receive the care they need.
From working with federal and local officials on selection of the building site to securing the federal funding for construction, the Congressman has pushed to expedite the project by sending several letters to authorities, meeting frequently with VA and Corps officials, and urging that regular correspondence and updates be made available to his office and the public.
A current timeline for the project anticipates that first patients will be seen in the facility in Winter of 2022.
