Over the past week the Pittsburg Police Department responded to two life saving incidents which one stemmed from an injury and another from a drug overdose.

On Saturday, June 6, officers responded to a home on Alpine Ct. for a report of a domestic disturbance. it was reported that a male juvenile of the family became upset and was attempting to assault others inside the home.

Police say during the incident, the male broke out a window to the residence and while doing so severely cut his arm with a shard of glass.  As officers arrived on scene they found the male had in fact cut an artery in the arm and was bleeding profusely.  Officers quickly recognized the seriousness of the injury and applied a tourniquet to the arm as the male lost  consciousness. The male was transported to a local medical center where he immediately underwent surgery. Medical staff was able to repair the injury and save the male from potentially losing his arm.

According to Police Captain Steve Albanese, all Pittsburg officers carry a tourniquet with them in the event of injuries such as this.

“The doctor who treated the male stated that if the officers had not applied the tourniquet the male could have lost his arm and potentially his life. Thanks to the quick work of our officers, the male is expected to recover from his injury,” said Albanese.

On Friday, June 5, officers responded to the 2000 block of El Fresco Drive for the report of a 19-year-old man suffering from a possible overdose.  Prior to officers arriving at the house, they were advised the subject appeared to be not breathing.

Albanese explained once at the residence, Pittsburg officers, along with medical personnel, located the man unconscious but breathing. As officers spoke to the family members,  it was determined the victim overdosed. The man was immediately administered Narcan and shortly thereafter he began to regain consciousness.

He was immediately transported to a local hospital where he received further medical treatment and expected to make a recovery.

“If it wasn’t for our officers’ quick response and recognizing signs of overdose for the man, this situation could have ended much differently,” said Albanese.

Good to see stories about the many good things the police do. It seems only the negative stories usually make the news. Great job officers!

This is what the majority of Police Officers do on Every Shift ~ They put their lives on the line to protect Ours! We want them there immediately to protect us! But, then we turn on ALL Police Officers instantly if one officer does something deemed to be inappropriate. This sort of sounds a very similar to what ALL the protesting has been about ~ One African American person breaks a law and it is perceived that ALL African Americans break Laws ~ One Police Person uses too much force ~ and it is perceived that ALL Police Officers use too much force! Where is the difference??
