Photos: Firefighters Keep Vegetation Fire in Check Near Antioch Elementary School

by ECT

At roughly 12:15 pm Wednesday afternoon, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District crews responded to a vegetation fire on Vista Grande Dr. that was burning brush and trees next to Carmon Dragon Elementary School.

The fire burned about a half-acre before it was under control by about 12:45 pm and the Elementary School was evacuated as a precaution even though the fire was a distance away.

Crews had a tough time accessing the fire due to its location on the hill and brush and trees between the hill and the park as well as finding a water source.  Thankfully, the hill had a fire break which created a barrier between the park and the hill full of dry crash to allow firefighters time to keep it under control as they worked to keep it under control. Antioch PD was also on scene for crowd and traffic control.

Crews were on scene for roughly 3-hours and 11-minutes. No structures were damaged in this fire.

Belshaw Elementary School Reports Fire

A second fire broke out today at an Antioch school as a fire was reported at Belshaw Elementary School at 3:56 pm in the boys bathroom. Firefighters arrived on scene and put out a small fire which did not extend to any other building. Crews were on scene for roughly 20-minutes.
