Nicasio, CA – Two employees from Pacific Gas & Electric Company were credited January 17 with rescuing a man who had fallen down a 30-foot cliff and lost consciousness in a swollen creek in West Marin.
An emergency call was placed at 3:58 p.m. after the PG&E workers working along Lucas Valley Road witnessed the man’s fall into Nicasio Creek and rushed to his side. The PG&E supervisor, 47-year-old Todd Beesley of Antioch, was with lineman Daniel Linn, 40, of Brentwood, when they saw the man fall and hit his head on a rock.
Marin County Fire Department Battalion Chief Jeremey Pierce said the two workers went down the cliff and found the man face-down in the flooded creek. They pulled him from the water and rendered aid as responders from Marin County Fire, the Marin County Sheriff’s Office, the Marin Municipal Water District, the Nicasio Volunteer Fire Department, and the Skywalker Ranch Fire Department responded to the scene, about three miles east of the village of Nicasio.
The man, whose identity was not released, was transported in serious condition to Marin General Hospital. He had stepped out of a vehicle just before he fell, the witnesses said.
“Without these two witnessing the event and taking such swift action, there would have been little chance of the man’s survival,” Pierce said. “They should be commended for their heroic efforts.”
Beesley and Linn were working on a section of Lucas Valley Road after downed power lines from Wednesday’s storm had forced closure of the road.
