On May 25, 2021, at about 11:30 am, Oxnard Police responded to the 1200 block of South N Street regarding a nine-year-old who accidentally shot himself in the hand with a handgun located inside the residence. The weapon was easily accessible to the child, and the child thought the gun was a toy.

The child was transported to a local hospital and is in stable condition according to police.

The Oxnard Police Department Family Protection Unit arrived on scene and took over the investigation. A warrant search was served at the residence. During the investigation, officers located a large amount of US Currency, concentrated cannabis, Psilocybin Mushrooms, a semi-automatic “ghost” gun and a rifle.  Police arrested and booked a 17-year-old into the Ventura County Juvenile Facilities complex.

Police say the 17-year-old suspect lived at this residence with his mother. The suspect was arrested for child endangerment, unsafe storage of a firearm, possession of an unregistered firearm, possession for sales of concentrated cannabis and Psilocybin Mushrooms.

The police department reminds gun owners to properly secure their firearms with children present in the home to prevent firearm tragedies from happening.

Too bad for the 9 year old, but a good thing came out of the shooting. Another thug off the street. Although not sure for how long.

Notice the confluence of this incident with illegal guns, “large amounts” of money, cannabis and psychedelic drugs. Should be food for thought for the legalize drugs crowd – but it won’t be.
