Orinda Attempted Homicide Suspect in Custody

The suspect in a recent attempted homicide in Orinda has been arrested. 21-year-old Falealea Tytus Maka was detained last Wednesday by a US Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force and the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff Warrant Service Unit.

On February 13, 2016, Maka was involved in a fight outside a house party on Camino Encinas in Orinda. After the victim was knocked unconscious, witnesses say Maka continued to beat the victim, who is still in the hospital. The 21-year-old victim, who remains unidentified, is from Florida and was attending Chabot College in Hayward.

Shortly after the beating an attempted homicide arrest warrant for Maka was issued in connection with this case. He also has an outstanding arrest warrant in Utah for home invasion and armed robbery.

Maka was detained in an unincorporated part of San Leandro. He was later booked at the Martinez Detention Facility on charges that include attempted murder. His bail is set at $2 million.

Detectives have filed the case with the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. The DA’s Office has filed formal charges against Maka.
