One Teenage Girl Dead, Three Injured in Orinda House Fire Sunday Morning

ORINDA – Just before 4:00 AM on Sunday, November 18, Moraga-Orinda Fire units were called to 524 Moraga Way in Orinda for a reported structure fire. The first arriving unit found a single family residence heavily involved in fire and immediately went into rescue mode.

A total of nine engines responded to the scene and the fire was controlled at 5:08 AM– a 2nd alarm was called. Firefighters from the Moraga-Orinda Fire District were assisted by units from Contra Costa County Fire at the scene.

There is one confirmed fatality, a 16-year-old female, and two additional occupants and one firefighter suffered burn injuries and have been transported to hospitals. Moraga-Orinda Fire District crews will be at the scene throughout the day. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

According to Moraga-Orinda fire, the injured MOFD Firefighter has been treated and released form John Muir Medical Center after sustaining 2nd degree burns to his shoulders and ears through his turnouts.

Moraga Way will be closed between Ivy Dr. and Coral Dr. until at least noon today (a detour is available).
