Here is a look at this weekends events in East Contra Costa County which include multiple events in Antioch, Brentwood and Oakley.

IMG_6061October 3: Antioch Neighborhood Cleanup

The Antioch Police Department is excited to announce the 64th installment of the Neighborhood Cleanup Program.

The 64th Neighborhood Cleanup event will occur on Saturday, October 3rd from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Village East Park on Gentrytown Drive. Please park in the circle of Pear and Cherry Streets. Volunteers will receive instructions and the equipment necessary to accomplish the goal. The targeted area is within walking distance

This is a collaborative community effort which involves active participation from The Antioch Police Department Crime Prevention Commission; Neighborhood Watch Program; Volunteers in Police Service; community volunteers and the Public Works Department.

Oakley’s Mayor will be at Lucky grocery store tomorrow  to hear from you. There will be no agendas or speeches, just a chance to come out and introduce yourself and talk about what matters to you.

Please stop by to talk to about issues, ask questions, discuss concerns, and offer comments or suggestions.

Doug Hardcastle will be at Lucky’s between 12-2pm.

 


October 3: Brentwood Farmers MarketBrentwood-Farmers-Market

The Brentwood Farmers’ Market on is open on Saturday from 8am to 12pm, Oak St. and First St.  New this year – they have expanded around the corner onto Oak St.

The season will run from March 7, 2015 to November 21, 2015.

 


natures-canvasOctober 3: Nature’s Canvas, Free Lynn House Gallery Exhibit

The 3rd Annual Nature’s Canvas Exhibit begins September 26th and continues through October 10th on Wednesdays and Saturdays, from 1-4 PM.

Artists living in and around the Delta, with the many hills and valleys, along with East Bay Regional Park properties, have an abundance of opportunities to capture nature and all its wonders in many art forms. The Nature’s Canvas Exhibit, will feature nature, in all mediums, the artworks of 30+ artists. The work must focus on nature, however the work is not juried; it is left up to the artist to determine what nature means to them.

Participating artists are: Art Garcia, Adele Boyer, Al Kidwell, Annette Seabury, Beverly C. Turner, Beverly Knight, Beverly Prather, Dan Mcreaken, DD Chabot, Denise Okeson-Messner, Dianne Curtain, Easy Gonzales, Fred Hoskins, FROgard, Gloria Cannon, Helena Alleman, Janice Dilbeck, Jeff Strawther, Jerome Gibson, Joel Summerhill, Julia Offord, Julia Starr, Ken Tomlin, Kenneth Lui, Linda Fead, Matt Martin, Michael Pohl, Michele Brady, Michele Eakin, MJ Coleman, Patricia Theis, Robin Mayoff, and Yasuko Seavey.

The Lynn House Gallery is located at 809 West 1st Street, Antioch CA 94509. Operating hours are 1-4 PM during exhibits and admission is always free.

October 3: Downtown Brentwood Coalition presents OktoberFest
Join the downtown Brentwood Coalition between 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm for OktoberFEST featuring “Public Eye Band”, Dachsund Parade, and Beer Stein Obstacle Race – Downtown Brentwood Oak & First Streets. We will update as the event gets closer.


Delta-QuiltersOctober 3-4,: 23rd Annual Harvest of the Delta
You are invited to join the Delta Quilters at their Annual Quilt Show at the Brentwood Community Center located at 35 Oak Street City Park in Brentwood.

The event is $10 for a weekend pass and will feature Exhibits, Demonstrations, vendors, boutique, gift baskets and food vendors.

Delta Quilters’ primary mission is charity, with members making dozens of donation quilts each year that are donated to local hospital neo-natal care units, foster care agencies, and other groups.  We use donated fabric, batting, and other materials for our charity quilts graciously given to us by local quilt shops, textile manufacturers, members and friends.

On Sunday, October 4 from 10:00 am to 11:00 am, you are invited to join the Furry Friends Food Relief Program for a low cost Vaccine Clinic in Brentwood.

Lumpys-DinerOct 10: Lumpy’s Diner 7th Annual Burger Eating Contest
Join Lumpy’s Diner in Antioch for the 7th annual Burger Eating Contest and Car show. The event begins with Kids Fest at 2:00 pm followed by a car show from 4-9pm.

Walk to DarknessOct. 10: Oakley to Host Suicide Prevention Walk
The first annual Out of the Darkness Community Walk to help raise awareness of suicide prevention will be held in Oakley on Oct. 10. The walk will take place at Cypress Grove Community Park, located at 4001 Frank Hengel Way. Registration will begin at 9:00am and the walk will start at 10:00am.

Oct 10: CAST For KIDS at Los Vaqueros Reservoir

The Contra Costa Water District has teamed up with the C.A.S.T. For Kids organization to offer a free fishing day at Los Vaqueros Reservoir for children with special needs, ages 7 -18, on Saturday, October 10th, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.   This year, the Lesher Foundation is our major sponsor.

The children need to be East or Central County residents to qualify.  Also, they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times at the event. Everything is free, including the child’s fishing gear and lunch, however transportation to and from Los Vaqueros is not provided.  Families interested in participating in this event can e-mail me at [email protected].


 

encounter_canoesOctober 14-26: Tall Shop to Visit Antioch

Antioch, Calif. – The tall ship Lady Washington, the official ship of the state of Washington, will stop at the Antioch City Marina October 14-26 and offer hands-on history experiences, tours, and public excursions. The ship is a replica of one of the first U.S.-flagged vessels to explore the west coast of North America.

From its home port in Grays Harbor, Wash., Lady Washington visits ports in California throughout the school year, delivering education programs to 4th, 5th, and 6th graders.

Here’s the ship’s public schedule.

  • 10/15-16: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., walk-on tours, $3 per person donation requested.
  • 10/17-18: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., walk-on tours, $3 per person donation requested.
  • 10/17: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Adventure Sail, $39-$47.
  • 10/18: 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., Encounters & Explorations (special event), $39-$47.
  • 10/20-23: 4 p.m. to 5 p.m., walk-on tours, $3 per person donation requested.
  • 10/24-25: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., walk-on tours, $3 per person donation requested.
  • 10/24-25: 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Adventure Sail, $39-$47.

On October 18, Lady Washington will present “Encounters & Explorations: Echoes of Early Expeditions.” Join members of California Indian tribes and a historian from Fort Ross State Historic Park for a round-table discussion of the impact of early European and American exploration of the west coast on indigenous people. The three-hour sailing experience takes place aboard Lady Washington and includes demonstrations of tall ship handling, sea shanty singing, and maritime storytelling.

Adventure Sails are family-oriented experiences featuring opportunities for guests to take the helm of a real tall ship, conditions permitting. Tickets for all sails, including Encounters & Explorations, are available at www.historicalseaport.org, or by calling 800-200-5239. Excursion prices are $47 adults, $39 children 12 and under. Walk-on tours are by donation. No reservations for walk-on are required.

The 2015 stopover coincides with Delta Thunder VI powerboat races on the Sacramento River October 17-18.

Launched in 1989 for Washington State’s centennial, Lady Washington is a U.S. Coast Guard-inspected passenger vessel that has appeared in several motion pictures and television programs, including the 2003 Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.

The City of Oakley will be hosting the 7th Annual Harvest Festival on Saturday, October 17th from noon to 4:00 p.m. at the Oakley Civic Center Plaza.

Hook-line-and-sinkerOctober 18: Hook Line & Sinker Bass Tournament Series

The Hook, Line & Sinker bass tournament circuit is a low cost circuit for the amateur angler. The entry fee of $70 per team includes cash awards for the top 7 teams, plaques for the top 5 teams in each tournament and a hot dog BBQ after each tournament.

At each tournament we also have a young angler raffle for our participants age 16 and under. A portion of the entry fee is also used to host the Tournament of Champions and tri-trip BBQ for the anglers at the end of each year. This is a great place to start if you want to fish professional tournaments or if you just want to have fun!

Join Discovery Bay Elementary School for Booville event for all on Oct. 24 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm.

BrownstoneOctober 31: Brownstone Gardens Hosts October Open Garden Photo Shoot
Join Brownstone Gardens between 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at 91 Brownstone Road in Oakley where they invite you to bring your own photograph and snap photographs with their facility as a backdrop. This year, they are inviting you to bring a custom, pumpkins.

Each person who delivers a carved pumpkin on Friday, Sept. 30 between 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm will be entered into a drawing for 2-tickets to Disneyland. 1 entry per pumpkin. 1 carved pumpkin per person.

They will also have a best pumpkin contest and a best costume contest.

Pittsburg 5krunOctober 31: Pittsburg Halloween 5k Fun Run

Join us for our Halloween 5k Fun Run along the Pittsburg Marina!  Adults and children are invited to participate. For extra fun, we will have a costume contest so be sure to run or walk in your costume! Family-friendly costume required. Runners in inappropriate attire will be denied entry.

Youth participating in kids run/walk will receive a participant ribbon. Medallions will be presented to the first three finishers in the 5K.  Post event activities will be held at Buckley Square/Old Town Plaza!
