Antioch Police Arrest Driver Who Killed 12-Year-Old on Sycamore Drive, Injured 2 Others
ANTIOCH, CA — On October 11, 29-year-old Ray Shaqil Reeves was arrested and booked into the Martinez Detention Facilityfor vehicular manslaughter and 5 charges of assault with deadly weapon.
The charges stem from a Sept. 16 crash on Sycamore Drive where at 3:21 pm, Antioch Police and Contra Costa County Fire Protection District responded to a vehicle crash which resulted in three 12-year-old’s being struck by a vehicle.
On October 11th, the District Attorney’s Office filed a vehicular manslaughter charge, five counts of assault with a deadly weapon, two special allegations for brain injury, paralysis, and great bodily harm against Reeves. — Full Story
Antioch Police Staffing Levels Drop to 76 Full-Duty Officers, Work on Hiring
The Antioch Police Department currently has 102 sworn officers. Currently 8 are on paid administrative leave due to the FBI/DA investigation. 76 officers are full-duty as of Tuesday according to Chief Steve Ford who provided an update during a press conference.
FBI Investigation
The investigation is open and ongoing in the hands of the FBI and the Contra Costa County District Attorney’s Office. He reminded the public officers deserve their due process by law and should not be judged or tried in court of public opinion.
