Updated: Brentwood Police Investigating Fatal Crash on Fairview Ave

At approximently 7:30 am Sunday, the Brentwood Police Department responded to a vehicle crash at Fairview at Grant Street in the city of Brentwood.

Upon arrival, they located a vehicle on its side with a person trapped inside and not breathing. They requested a medical helicopter as Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters were still responding.

Engine 92 arrived on scene reporting a vehicle was on its side which had also struck a hydrant and there was a single patient still inside the vehicle. Brentwood Public Works was also requested for the hydrant.

Soon after Battalion 9 cancelled the medical helicopter and additional resources.

By 8:04 am, the occupant of the vehicle was extricated and BC9 said they were waiting for the coroner to arrive on scene.

No other details have been made available.

UPDATE
Brentwood Police say the roadway is expected to remain closed for several hours while they investigate.

11:50 am UPDATE:  FATAL VEHICLE COLLISION

On 10/16/22 at approximately 0721 hours, Brentwood officers were dispatched to an overturned vehicle in the area of Grant Street and Fairview Avenue.

Once officers arrived they determined there was an adult male driver alone in the vehicle; and no other vehicles or pedestrians were involved in the collision.

Sadly, the driver, a 37-year-old male from Oakley, succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene. It is unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this collision; this will be determined pending toxicology results. Unsafe speed is being investigated as a factor in the collision.

At this time, we are not releasing the name of the driver until the next of kin has been notified.
