Here is a look at the events occurring this weekend in East Contra Costa County

8:00 am: Brentwood Farmers Market
The 2017 season will run every Saturday through November 18  located at First Street between Oak and Chestnut.

8:00 am: Antioch’s Annual Reuse Round Up

The annual Reuse Round up will be collecting gently used items on October 14, 2017 from 8 a.m. – 1 p.m. at Somersville Towne Center, Delta View Side.

The Reuse Round Up is designed to help those that participate in the Antioch city wide yard sale held October 6th – 8th to have one location they drive through to donate items they couldn’t sell or no longer want to local charities and to encourage those that could not participate in the city wide garage sale to donate items as well.

Charities such as East County Veterans will be on hand as well as other nonprofits to collect items. Please check www.antiochyardsales.com for the list of not acceptable & acceptable items for the Reuse Round Up. Especially needed are blankets and warm clothing.


8:00 am: Drama Factory Monster Dash 5k Run/Walk (Cancelled)

The Drama Factory has announced that it will host its 2nd Annual Monster Dash 5K Run/Walk on October 14th at Contra Loma Regional Park.

The Halloween-themed athletic event for all ages that includes a 5k run, a one mile run, and a children’s costume parade through Antioch’s scenic Contra Loma Regional Park. Funds raised from this event go to help keep the performing arts accessible to the community.

The first 5k overall male and female finishers will be awarded a plaque. The first overall male and female in the 1 mile event will receive medals.

Note – The 5k Run/Walkevent cancelled due to air quality


9:00 am: Pittsburg Farmers Market
Join the Pittsburg Farmers Market Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm between May 6 through October 21 located at Railroad Ave between 5th and 6th Streets.


9:00 am: Out of Darkness Walk

The 3rd annual Oakley Out of the Darkness Community Walk will take place on Saturday October 14 at the Freedom High School Gym.

Registration will begin at 8:00am. The opening ceremony and walk will start at 9:00am.

The walk was first brought to East Contra Costa County after a group of community members realized there had been a significant increase in suicides in Oakley and the surrounding areas. The goal is to showcase community support and to help lower those numbers.

2:00 pm: Lumpy’s Dinner Hosts 9th Annual Burger Eating Contest and Car Show
Join Lumpy’s Diner (5891 Lone Tree Way) as they team up with the Midnighter’s Car Club in support of our local SpiderMan, Ricky Mena, the center of the world renown non-profit organization…Heart of a Hero.

All proceeds from this year’s contest and a portion of the diners sales will be donated directly to Heart of a Hero in hopes that we can help to make even the slightest difference in the fight against childhood illnesses and ailments.

We will have activities for the children, vendor booths for shopping, great food and beverages, rockin music, some of the Bay Area’s finest cars and the ever entertaining sight of competitors racing to devour as many burgers as possible in 12 minutes. Raffle prizes, apparel and freebies galore.


2:00 pm: Downtown Brentwood to Host Oktoberfest
Join the folks in Downtown Brentwood’s for their Annual OktoberFEST. The event will be held from 2pm to 7:00 pm with German Beer & Wine; Bratwurst, Pretzels; Authentic German music; Games, Dachshund Parade, Kids Zone. Note: the parade will begin at 5:00 pm.

First Light: Hook Line & Sinker Bass Tournament Series

All tournaments are launched out of Russo’s Marina on Bethel Island in Contra Costa County and begin at “first light”.

At the kickoff event last month, Ceasar Laguna and Stacy Gee took top prize catching 21.40 pounds which beat out Ronald Van Airsdale and Dan Daniel who took second with a total weight of 21.30 pounds. Will Calunga and Tim Nguyen scored 20.79 pounds.
