Nightly Closures Scheduled for I-5 Project in Sacramento County

by ECT

Sacramento County — Nightly construction work continues for the FixSac5 project as the 2021 construction season is in full operation throughout the Sacramento region.

Crews are scheduled for preliminary crack and seal work on southbound Interstate 5 north of Sutterville Road to the U.S. Highway 50 connector from Sunday, June 6 to Wednesday, June 9.

This work is necessary in preparation to construct new lanes that have deteriorated over the years. Nearby residents should expect loud construction noises from evening into the early morning hours.

The work is part of the $370 million FixSac5 Project, which includes rehabilitating 67 lane miles of roadway, building 23 miles of carpool lanes and upgrading the existing electrical and drainage systems.

Caltrans is notifying motorists there will be no work done on I-5 from Friday, June 11 through Wednesday, June 16. State Highway 99 will have a full closure in both directions for the 21st Avenue bridge replacement project in south Sacramento. Caltrans has included I-5 as an alternate route for SR-99 motorists during these dates.

SCHEDULE:

  • 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday.
  • Daytime work will be done behind k-rail and will not restrict lanes.
  • (Note: 55-Hour Partial closure scheduled for the weekend of June 18 in the same area.)

Motorists traveling through the work zone should expect lane restrictions, delays and should be aware of commercial work vehicles traveling in and out of the area. The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. For more information on this project text ‘FixSac5’ to 74121 or visit FixSac5. Caltrans encourages the public to follow construction updates on Twitter and Facebook @FixSac5.

When weather permits, crews work in the construction zone during the day and night, and the speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph for the safety of workers and motorists. The speed limit will be enforced 24/7. Caltrans advices motorists to “Be Work Zone Alert” – someone’s loved one is at work.

Work is scheduled to begin as listed but subject to change due to traffic incidents, weather, availability of equipment and/ or materials, and construction related issues.
