Melendez Introduces Measure Honoring Our Youngest Heroes with Month of the Military Child

SACRAMENTO – Assemblywoman Melissa Melendez, R-Lake Elsinore, announced Monday that she has introduced Assembly Concurrent Resolution (ACR) 52, which recognizes April as the Month of the Military Child.

“I’m proud to acknowledge the bravery of our military children as our nation’s youngest heroes,” said Melendez. “Military children and their service member parents must overcome unique challenges as they serve our country. When our service members make that commitment to serve, their children face hardships that often go unnoticed.”

ACR 52 would officially declare April as the Month of the Military Child in California.  During this month, we honor the sacrifices made by our military families across the world, and the importance of the children of military members serving at home and overseas. In the United States, there are nearly two million military children whose sacrifices often go unrecognized. From enduring long and uncertain deployments of one or both parents, to moving an average of ten times growing up, kids serve too.

“In honoring the children of military families, we are also honoring the sacrifices that these young people have to make when their parents are deployed,” Melendez said. “There is nothing easy about having to go long periods of time without your mom or dad, not knowing when, or if, they will come home. Setting aside April as the Month of the Military Child applauds the everyday sacrifices made by our youngest heroes.”

Assemblywoman Melissa A. Melendez represents the 67th Assembly District, which includes the communities of Lake Elsinore, Canyon Lake, Murrieta, Menifee, Wildomar and a portion of Hemet. It also includes the Riverside County unincorporated areas of Lake Mathews, Good Hope, Nuevo, and Winchester. Follow her on Twitter: @asmMelendez
