Here is a look at events around East Contra Costa for the weekend of April 30 and a little further out.


8:00 am: Brentwood Farmers Market
Join the Brentwood Farmers Market which runs every Saturday now through November 19 on Oak Street in Brentwood. The market runs from 8:00 am to noon.


8:30 am: Delta Informal Gardner’s DIG Plant Sale
The Delta Informal Gardeners are hosting their annual Dig Plant sale at rock bottom prices. These are drought tolerant plants along with a variety of native California plants.

8:30 am to 1:30 pm rain or shine at Wolf Ranch, Brentwood (700 Creek Road)

9:00 am: Antioch Police 70th Neighborhood Cleanup
The Antioch Police Department announced it will host its 70th installment of the Neighborhood Cleanup Program.

The cleanup event will occur on Saturday, May 7th from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Volunteers will meet at the Live Oak School parking lot. They will be cleaning the neighborhoods between G and F Streets from 17th to 11th Street.


10:00 am: Contra Costa County Fair Job Fair
The Contra Costa County Fair will be holding a Job Fair and interviews on Saturday May 7th.  Applications and interviews will take place for the 2016 Contra Costa Contra Costa County Fair which will be held Thursday June 2nd – Sunday June 5th.  Available positions include but are not limited to: parking and ticket sellers, ticket takers, parking attendants, customer service representatives, janitorial staff, maintenance staff, security guards and more.

10:00 am: 18th Annual Show-N-Shine Car Show
All Ford Car Show, Food Donations, Trophies, Raffles, fun and much more! Staging begins at 7:00 am. The Food Banks of Contra Costa and Solano Food will be accepting non-perishable/canned goods at the show. Each food donation at the show will receive a raffle ticket as our thanks to you. Plus a portion of the proceeds from the show will be used to benefit local charities. The car show is for ALL Ford cars (Ford, Lincoln, Mercury, Edsel, Continentla, and other Ford manufactured or powered vehicles are welcome)

Entrance fee is $30 in advance and $35 the day of the show. Entries must be postmarked by


2:00 pm: Lynn House “Through My Lens” Exhibit
The 2nd Annual “Through My Lens” exhibit, at the Lynn House Gallery in Antioch, begins May 7th and runs through May 21st. There is no admission fee and the free opening artist reception will be held on Saturday, May 7th from 2-4 PM.

The Lynn House Gallery is located at 809 West 1st Street in downtown Antioch (across the street from AMTRAK) and is open from 1-4 PM on Wednesdays and Saturdays during exhibits.

5:00 pm: Antioch PAL Fundraiser Concert w/Forejour at Leer Vineyards
On May 7, a special benefit concert will be held at Leer Vineyards to help raise funds for the Antioch Police Activities League.

The concert will feature the band FOREJOUR:A Tribute to Foreigner and Journey and the proceeds will benefit Antioch PAL.  The cost per ticket is $35 and will be held from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm.

6:00 pm: Taste of Oakley
The 2nd Annual Taste of Oakley will be held this Saturday, May 7th from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at City Hall, 3231 Main Street.  Join us to sample delicious dishes from a variety of Oakley restaurants and caterers including Black Bear Diner, Mountain Mike’s Pizza, Peke’s Catering, C & C Barbeque, Carpaccio’s, Sabrina’s Pizzeria, Los Charros and Jalisco’s Mexican restaurant.  Tickets are $10 and space is limited.

Dusk – Oakley Movie in the Plaza (The Good Dinosaur)

6:30 pm: Antioch Speedway

8:00 pm: El Campanil presents House of Floyd
House of Floyd is San Francisco’s immersive Pink Floyd tribute band. Rather than simply replicating the iconic band’s recorded songs, House of Floyd focuses on the adventurous live arrangements and sonic explorations of their namesake.

This benefit is organized by the Delta Association of Realtors Community Service Foundation. We have designed a route that is flat and fast and will appeal to athletes of all levels. Our route is USTF Course Certified.

12:00 pm – Black Diamond Mines Preserve Open House
Celebrate Mother’s Day with a cool underground journey at Black Diamond Mines Regional Preserve!

Explore historic Hazel-Atlas silica sand mine on a free self-guided tour.

Must be 7+ years of age to tour the mine. Activities for younger children will be available outside the mine. People of all ages and dogs are welcome to visit the (underground) Greathouse Visitor Center.

Directions: Drive to the south end of Somersville Rd in Antioch (http://goo.gl/maps/jPYOx) and walk 15 minutes from there to the Hazel Atlas Portal where the event takes place. A shuttle will be available to bring visitors with mobility limitations to the event from the parking lot.


May 10: Oakley Coffee with Veterans
Every Tuesday, the Veterans of Oakley host a coffee with the veterans to discuss local issues that impact veterans. They also provide information on outreach programs and local events. They host the event between 8:30 – 10:30 am at Providence Bar and Grill (2085 Main St, Oakley). This week, their guest is Katherine Nance, who is a congressional candidate running against congressman Jerry McNerney.


May 14: Lumpy’s Diner Car Show
It’s that time of year again…join us at the Lumpy’s Diner in Antioch for our annual spring car show hosted by the Midnighters Car Club of Northern CA. Cash prizes and trophies.

Registration will be available the morning of with Kathleen of the Midnighters. We do not accept pre-registration and it fills up fast so please anticipate arriving early.


May 14: 3rd Annual Poker Run/Scavenger Hunt
VFW Post 10789 will hold its 3rd Annual Poker Run / Scavenger hunt on May 14th 2016. There is a kids area with jumpy and crafts and games. Raffle prizes for kids and adults, Pancake breakfast and lunch included in event.

All funds raised got to helping Veterans and their families in our district which includes Bethel Island, Oakley, Knightson, Brentwood, Discovery Bay and Byron. Doors open at 8am for Breakfast (757 1st Street, Brentwood), Tickets are $25.00 for individual and $45.00 for a family of 5. For more information, contact Maggie Sandoval at (510) 410-2725


May 14: John Marsh House Guided Hike
The John Marsh Historic Trust announced that on May 14, the public will have a rare opportunity to enjoy a hike through part of the Marsh Creek State Park, usually closed to the public.

Participants may enjoy panoramic views of the area; watch raptors ride the morning thermals; and get a sense of the trees, wildflowers, rock formations and other natural features of the property. The hike is 3 to 4 miles, and includes some moderate elevation gains.

The $20 fee is tax-deductible, and will help support the John Marsh Historic Trust’s efforts to restore John Marsh’s 160-year-old Stone House, and open other parts of the 3,700-acre park to the public.

May 14: Oakley Chamber of Commerce Wine & Whiskey Event
The Annual Wine and Whiskey Event will be held on May 14th, 2016 at La Grande Event Center. Tickets go on sale in February. Make sure to watch the February newsletter for details as tickets sold out in less than two weeks last year! You do not want to miss this amazing event!
