Here is a look at this weekends events across East Contra Costa County for May 13-14.

Saturday, May 13

8:00 am: Delta Peddlers Host Family Fun Ride
The Delta Pedalers will host their 1st Annual May Family Fun ride on May 13, 2017.  Starting at 8:00am at the Veterans Park in Brentwood, there is a morning of bicycling along the Marsh Creek Trail.  Open to all levels of bicyclists.  They have three distances to choose from. A fun 3 mile ride, a 10 mile ride and a 20 mile ride that will take you from Veterans Park in Brentwood to the Big Break Regional Shoreline in Oakley and back.  Two well marked rest stops with water and snacks will be positioned along the route as well as support personnel to insure a safe and fun ride.  All riders and participants are required to wear a helmet and have a bicycle in good condition prior to the event.  A bike safety check will be provided by a member of the Delta Pedalers Bicycle Club.

8:00 am: Brentwood Farmers Market
The 2017 season will run every Saturday through November 18  located at First Street between Oak and Chestnut.


8:30: Delta Informal Gardner’s DIG Day

For you gardening enthusiast Saturday will provide major discount thanks to the Delta Informal Gardner’s Club annual plant sale on May 13. 8:30 am to 1:30 pm rain or shine at Wolf Ranch, Brentwood (700 Creek Road)

The event kicks off at 8:30 am at Wolfe Ranch in Brentwood and will offer lots of drought tolerant plants for your garden. They will also have a variety of California native plants and experts on hand to advise you.

  • 1 gallon perennials – $3
  • 2-3 gallon plants – $4.00
  • 5 gallon plants – $6.00
  • CA Native Plants – $7.00
  • Succulents and Specialty Items – individually priced.

9:00 am: Pittsburg Farmers Market
Join the Pittsburg Farmers Market Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm between May 6 through October 21 located at Railroad Ave between 5th and 6th Streets.


11:00 am: Oakley LuLaPalooza (15 consultants inventory)

Shopping has never been better! In a private garden no less! 15 consultants are coming together to one place at one time to bring you over 10,000 pieces of inventory.

Never been able to try on all the styles? This is the perfect event for you! Come and join us for some fun, try on the clothes and enter the giveaway’s!

One person will win a mini wardrobe (3 pieces a top, bottom and dress) while 5 people will win a pair of leggings!  How to enter?!? Get registered at the main entrance, receive a bingo card and take it to each booth to be signed off and then hand the card back to us before the giveaway which will take place at 12:45! Must be present to win!

Event is located at Brownstone Gardens located at 91 Brownstone Road in Oakley.

11:00 am:  Rivertown Wine Walk 2017

The Celebrate Antioch Foundation invites you to participate in a fun relaxing afternoon of wine tasting, shopping and dining! Special discounts, raffles, food and fun from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm. The starting location is at Elite Dance located at 304 G Street in Antioch.

11:00 am: Delta Discoveries at Big Break Regional Shoreline
Discover the wonders of the Delta through hands on arts and crafts activities! Each week we will explore different wetland wonders. No registration required; Drop-in program.

Located at Big Break Visitor Center at the Delta at 81 Big Break Road, Oakley, CA.


12:30 Antioch Water Park Hosts Grand Opening of Cattail Harbor

The City of Antioch unveils Cattail Harbor, the newest water feature at the Antioch Water Park, on Saturday, May 13th at 12:30pm.

Free for the whole family, the dedication is inside the Water Park which is conveniently located on Lone Tree way across the street from Deer Valley High School.

Ribbon-cutting ceremonies begin at 1:00pm and all children will get to experience the Delta themed spray ground all afternoon. May is Water Safety Month and Lifeguards will hold CPR and life-guarding demonstrations and two pools will be open for free swimming until 4:00pm. Swim Instructors will test children on swimming skills to help parents select the correct swim lesson program over the summer.

Besides free swimming and play through Cattail Harbor, there will be activities and information for families. Guests can also purchase their Season passes at the early bird rate.

The dedication and free open house provides an excellent opportunity to showcase summer fun and community engagement. The Antioch Water Park opens for the season on May 27th. For more information about the spray ground or any of the programs at the Water Park, call 925-776- 3070.


2:00 pm: El Campanil Hosts Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra
Adults: $15    Seniors (62 & Over): $12     Students: $7

Formed in the late 1970s, the Contra Costa Chamber Orchestra has established a presence throughout the county.  The orchestra is comprised of forty-five musicians ranging in age from 15 to 94 who are music teachers, accountants, students, electricians, mechanics, homemakers, lawyers, retirees, dentists, engineers and computer specialists. Primarily Contra Costa residents, their only remuneration is the stimulation and satisfaction of rehearsing and performing together.  In addition to the five-concert season at the Lesher Center, the orchestra also nurtures its dedication to the community by providing affordable performances to the residents of East Contra Costa County at El Campanil Theatre.

6:00 pm: Taste of Oakley

The Taste of Oakley is Saturday, May 13th from 6 – 8pm at City Hall. This event will feature various Oakley-based restaurants & caterers serving a dish from their menu for guests to sample. Restaurants include, Lucia’s Baked Delights, Lucky Supermarket, Tasha’s Dynamite Bakery, Taquiza Limon, C & C BBQ, Grocery Outlet, 2 Legit 2 Pit BBQ, Jalisco’s and Sabrina’s Pizzeria . We will update this page as more restaurants are added.

7:00 pm: Antioch Speedway
The big news this week is the Larry Damitz Memorial for the DIRTcar Late Models. Larry has won over a dozen Late Model races at Antioch Speedway through the years and was second in points in 1986.  Larry’s division of choice in recent years, the Limited Late Models, are also on the schedule. The All Star Series Winged 360 Sprint Cars, A Modifieds and Dwarf Cars will also compete this week (Location: 1201 W 10th St, Antioch, CA)

El Campanil Children’s Theatre  – The Reluctant Dragon

The Reluctant Dragon is a peaceful fellow who likes tea, poetry, and an afternoon snooze.  Mischievous children stir the villagers to call in the famous dragon slayer, Saint George.  A young lad befriends both of the “adversaries” and arranges a meeting between them.  The comic battle that ensues provides an entertaining climax and a happy ending.

Performed by the children of: El Campanil Children’s Theatre.
