Lofgren Introduces Resolution Urging Vice President and Cabinet to Fulfill Duties Under 25th Amendment

by ECT

Resolution cites President Trump’s “alarming pattern of speech causing concern that a mental disorder may have rendered him unfit”

WASHINGTON, DC – Does the President suffer from early stage dementia? Has the stress of office aggravated a mental illness crippling impulse control? Has emotional disorder so impaired the President that he is unable to discharge his duties? Is the President mentally and emotionally stable?

Today (Wednesday), U.S. Representative Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) introduced a resolution that urges the Vice President and Cabinet to have the President examined by medical and psychiatric professionals to assist them in determining whether the President is unfit and unable to fulfill his Constitutional duties. Section 4 of the 25th Amendment of the United States Constitution outlines this obligation.

As the resolution reads, “President Donald J. Trump has exhibited an alarming pattern of behavior and speech causing concern that a mental disorder may have rendered him unfit and unable to fulfill his Constitutional duties.

“Many Americans, including many Republicans, have observed the President’s increasingly disturbing pattern of actions and public statements that suggest he may be mentally unfit to execute the duties required of him,” said Lofgren. “The President has not released a serious medical evaluation. Just as would be the case if the President were physically unable to execute the office of the President, this resolution urges those entrusted with the responsibility enshrined in the 25th Amendment to employ the services of medical and psychiatric professionals to help in their determination whether the President is mentally capable of carrying out his Constitutional responsibilities.”

Lofgren’s resolution urges the Vice President and Cabinet to “quickly secure the services of medical and psychiatric professionals to examine the President… to determine whether the President suffers from mental disorder or other injury that impairs his abilities and prevents him from discharging his constitutional duties.”

Section 4 of the 25th Amendment states:

“Whenever the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide, transmit to the President pro tempore of the Senate and the Speaker of the House of Representatives their written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office, the Vice President shall immediately assume the powers and duties of the office as Acting President.”

Since he won’t even release his tax returns for crying out loud, there’s not a hope in Hades this will have any effect.

But good try, Congresswoman!

Still though… “President Pence” would likely be a worse option. (“Worse than Trump” – Google that!)

Heck… Pence’s own Hoosiers weren’t on board to re-elect him.

There is no law requiring a presidential candidate or a president or anyone else to release their private tax returns.

I don’t appreciate how President Trump communicates. I fail to see the twiiter posts or public statements that warrant the removal of a President that quite frankly hasn’t changed much since his campaign days. He was elected to counter the failure of government to turn the coming human created disaster.

He is unfit

He was like that before he was elected. Why would anyone expect him to change? As a moderate Republican (who’s not a Trump supporter) I blame the American pubic for electing him. The country knew darn well what he was like – and we got exactly what American’s elected.

None of the candidates were worth voting for. Pence would not be worse. They don’t make them any worse than Trump. Trump is off his rocker.

Lofgren is the one who should have a psychiatric evaluation.

I’m not a psychiatrist, but many psychiatrist’s are weighing in that Trump meets the criteria for Narcissistic Personality Disorder. Before I can trust their opinion, I would like to know what political party they are. If they’re in the center like most people – maybe. But I’m reminded of Reagan’s quote – “If I’m ever in the hospital – I hope the doctor is a Republican.”

I’m sick of the far left and the far right. They’re both extremists, and see EVERYTHING as a political issue. It’s the reason most Americans are in the middle, including me.

Trump is what he is and America elected him. We all need to support him. If you are against him you are part of the problem. This is how the country has been run for over 200 years. Trump has done more for taxpayers in a short time. Notice I stated tax payers. If you take from society you are probably part of the problem and don’t like Trump. Stop sucking off the system for free stuff and you will understand why he got elected. Hard working taxpayers want him to fix our broken welfare entitlement ideology and corrupt spendthrift politicians. No one said it would be easy.

I agree with Melanie. Trump has alienated Republicans and Democrats. I’ve supported every president, regardless of political party – until Trump. I believe he’s a narcissist. Narcissists don’t serve the country – they serve themselves. Anyone who’s ever dealt with a narcissist knows this. I refuse to support anyone who has this problem. They destroy everything and everybody they come into contact with. And, yes, I’m a Republican.

I agree with “stop sucking off the system.” But those of us who don’t support him aren’t the problem. The problem is Trump himself, and those who remain in denial. Obviously, you’ve never dealt with someone who has NPD. It is a mental illness – and mentally ill people are unfit to run the country.

American – you have no idea what you’re talking about. When Republicans are against him, it’s his ways – not his politics. Wise up.

Think about it Nick, It’s the people of this country who want him and voted him in needing tough decisions made. You must be in denial. The government is out of control and he will work for the people to get it back. I guess you are a politician or a bottom feeder of the taxpayers. Either way you should still support your country or get out. We are tired of takers.

Nick Aug 22, 2017 - 2:34 pm

I support my country – I don’t support Trump. Like I said, I agree with a lot (but not all) of his political decisions. I don’t support him, because he’s UNFIT to run the country.

I’m not a politician, and I have an undergraduate and graduate degree (UCLA). We pay a disproportionate amount in taxes. What I do recognize in others is mental health issues. People with mental health issues (undiagnosed and untreated medically) are DANGEROUS.

This isn’t political – I’m a Republican. This is personal, and the Republicans against him – it’s personal. The Democrats – it’s political.

Once again, narcissists don’t serve their country. They only serve THEMSELVES.

Trump has the lowest approval rating of any President. The people I know who voted for him are sorry they voted. Trump is pathetic, and it will only get worse.

Also – a lot of people who voted for him were actually voting against Clinton, not for Trump. We didn’t have anyone worth voting for.

You don’t understand politics. You sound young and naïve. Or stupid.

Nick, or should I address you as Dr. Nick? You have never met President Trump yet you diagnos him as if you had credentials to do so. Ease your mind and leave the US for four years. You don’t realize simple math as 30 percent will always be 30 percent. So much for your UCLA education. Think of how the previous administration has created 20 trillion in debt and unfounded liability that would collapse our economy. The economy is reversing and the unfounded liability is turning to the better. Jobs are back. Are you sure it wasn’t Berkeley where you were educated. No need to get a refund. Ease your mind and watch Trump work for the betterment of even you. He has no reason too make America better other than the challenge. I wish we had more true Americans. Ease your mind and just leave to what you think is a better country. Obama or Trump I will support our president because I am an American.

Melanie Aug 22, 2017 - 8:42 pm

Nick is right. He doesn’t deserve our support. I’ve supported ALL presidents until Trump. I support our country, but refuse to support Trump. His strongest followers are white trash. They’re too uneducated, and they don’t GET IT.
