Liberty High School Assistant Baseball Coach Passes Away

by ECT

Liberty HS

Our thoughts and prayers are with family, friends and Liberty High School after freshmen assistant baseball Coach James Anthony Brignolio passed away yesterday evening.

According to Principal Patrick Walsh, Brignolio, also known as “Coach Tony”, complained of chest pain during a baseball practice and 9-1-1 was immediately called. He was conscious when he left the school and something happened at the hospital and he passed away.

“It’s a sad day for our students here. He had been a volunteer here and coach in the community,” explained Walsh. “When you are at Liberty High, because of the tradition and small community it impacts us all.”

Walsh said that Brignolio graduated from Liberty in 1990.

“We are all sad today, we let the kids know and a counselor is available in the office,” said Walsh. “Please keep the Tony and his family in your thoughts and prayers.”

Heaven gained a real baseball man with a great sense of humor who put countless hours back into the game coaching local kids. Like so many other adults who step up to mostly thankless tasks to help our community, Tony did it for all the right reasons and truly enjoyed working with young players. A huge loss to all of us, especially his family. There’s no way to explain such things, but Tony will be watching over his family and rooting for his players from a better place.

I will think of Tony often, and that will remind me to thank Tony’s colleagues for their contribution. Life is too short. Tony deserved more time with us. All my prayers to his family.
