Letter: A Vote for Joy Motts is a Vote for Educational Excellence

by ECT

Dear Editor:

For a number of years, I have had the honor and privilege to have worked with Joy Motts, President of the Antioch Unified School Board. She is now seeking a second term and I urge all voters to ensure that she continue her important work for the children, parents and City of Antioch.

Joy has been instrumental in assisting the District to implement Linked Learning where our high schools have become leaders in implementing cross-curricular academies. She has become the spokesperson at State events where she speaks expertly to these innovative learning communities.

Joy demonstrates true personal commitment to the Antioch community. Her invaluable leadership allowed us to retain Dozier Libbey Medical High School as a District school that rightly belongs to the Antioch community. She is visible on schools sites and listens to the concerns of parents and staff.

More impressive is her dedication to student safety and welfare. All schools have been upgraded to safeguard the students and staff through appropriate fencing and protected entrances. She has been the primary force to contract with security personnel to keep our campuses safe and is actively pursuing positive programs to assist students with socio-emotional issues that affect their behavior and academics.

More than ever our schools are facing a myriad of new and difficult challenges. Joy Motts is the leader who can face these challenges and resolve these issues with determination, insight and understanding.

A vote for Motts is a vote for educational excellence.

As President of the School Board I expect Ms. Motts to act like one and not allow Mr. Gill to walk all over her. She should take a far stronger leadership role which I do not think she is capable of doing. Giving him a new sweetheart deal to stay was an error also. Let him go.
