On Tuesday, JC Penney announced it will be closing 13-more stores including the Concord location at the Sunvalley Mall.
Earlier this month, they announced closure of 154 stores with closing sales beginning June 12. Of the 154 store closures, 9 now come from California, including in Tracy at the West Valley Mall and Concord at the Sun Valley Mall.
It appears the Antioch location has survived the second round of announced closures.
According to JC Penney’s, they say they will continue to operate the majority of our stores and our flagship store, jcp.com, to ensure our valued customers continue to have access to the products and brands they need and want.
Store closures in California include:
- Chino – Rancho Del Chino Shopping Center
- Concord – Sunvalley Mall
- Delano – JCPenney
- Los Banos – San Luis Plaza
- Paso Robles – Woodland Plaza
- San Bernardino – Inland Center
- Tracy – West Valley Mall
- Turlock – Countryside Plaza
- Yreka – Yreka Junction Mall
Following entry of an order at the June 11, 2020, hearing with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Texas, in Corpus Christi, Texas, store closing sales will begin at 154 locations.
The Company expects additional phases of store closing sales will begin in the coming weeks. As the Company remains focused on its Plan for Renewal and driving sustainable, profitable growth, it intends to reduce its store footprint and focus resources on its strongest stores and powerful eCommerce flagship store, jcp.com. Store closing sales for the first round of store closures are expected to take 10-16 weeks to complete.

There is o hope for Sun Valley Mall. It is already a shadow of itself. The loss of Penny’s and Sears, Macy’s lowering its quality, and the plethora of other nonentities make the place no longer a destination. Wow. Remember the days of the skate rink? The theater? TWO pie shops? The food court? Too, too sad
