by ECT

On March 3, 2015, at 2:04am, a Hercules Police Officer conducted a routine security check at the Franklin Canyon Golf Course.

The officer located a rental van parked, in the otherwise empty, parking lot. The officer found a lone male occupant sleeping in the van. When the officer attempted to wake the male, by knocking on the window, there was no response.

The officer checked the vehicle’s doors and found a side door unlocked. The officer opened the door to check on the welfare of the occupant. The male woke up and said he was from Las Vegas and was just sleeping. The officer observed a glass pipe, commonly used to smoke a controlled substance, in the van.

A further check of the van revealed 11 garbage bags, containing packaged Marijuana. Each garbage bag weighed approximately 22.5 pounds, for a total weight of approximately 247 pounds.

The estimated street value is over $700,000. 44 year old Richard Vanhorn was arrested and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
