Governor Newsom Calls for Home Isolation for All Seniors, Bars and Wineries to Close

by ECT

On Sunday, Governor Gavin Newsom called for home isolation for seniors and the shutdown of bars, nigthclubs, brew pubs and wineries to help slow the spread of coronavirus (COVID-19).  He also recommended that those who are medically vulnerable to home isolate.

The move comes after the US death toll rose to 62 with 3,200 confirmed cases–300+ in California while in Contra Costa, they officially are listing 29 cases, but many more are believed to be unreported.

Few tidbits:

  • Hospital Visits: no more visits unless it was for “end of life”
  • Restaurants: no change at the moment, but are recommending they implement social distancing and reduce occupancy by 50% to ensure social distancing is occurring.
  • He said 85% of California students were not in school and 24 of 25 of the largest Districts were shutdown.
  • Guidance to cancel/postpone large gatherings remain in place.
  • State is in the process of taking over hotels/motels to assist the homeless

Just wondering why no mass transit systems haven’t shut down? Just asking.

Newsom should also order grocery stored to ration foods like bread. At one of our super markets here, some fat slob, with half his butt hanging out of his pants, loaded his cart with 8 large loafs of bread while other people who wanted just one loaf were left empty handed. Karma struck when the cashier removed only two loafs and ran then through the cash register and the remaining 6 loafs were taken back to the bread rack. We cheered and applauded. The pig was not pleased. Tough luck, buddy!

So much for St. Patrick’s Day celebrations in bars throughout the country. Buy your Guinness and celebrate alone at home. Be sure to wear your greens.

Coronavirus can survive on clothing, and seniors are several times more likely to die if they become infected. Although you may feel the need to check on neighbors, the preferred method of contact would definitely be phone or email. Direct physical contact is a serious risk. Although intentions may be good, now is not the time to increase visits. The point of social distancing is to stop further transmission, at least until the health care system is no longer too overwhelmed to deal with existing cases. It’s time to exercise common sense, and realize that every physical interaction is creating a potential danger.
