PITTSBURG (Dec. 27, 2012) – The growing involvement of gangs in human trafficking will be the subject on CCTV that will air Thursday, Jan 3 at 8 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 4 at 10 a.m.

The panel on human trafficking was part of the symposium sponsored by Supervisor Federal Glover and the East County Gang Task Force that was held Dec. 17 at the Boys & Girls Club of East County in Pittsburg.

The two-hour symposium also included a panel describing the programs available to gang members who are incarcerated in Contra Costa County’s juvenile and adult detention facilities.

Among the speakers is Larry Lawrence, the Deputy Attorney General for the state of California who spoke about the findings of the just-released status report for the state of California.

Human trafficking, he said, has become a $35-billion business and California is a hotbed of activity for this criminal activity.

Supervisor Glover pointed out that the vast majority of the victims are American born, countering the public perception that it is mostly foreign nationals who are victimized.

CCTV is Comcast Channel 27, Astound channel 32 and AT&T U-verse channel 99. For additional air dates, visit CCTV’s program guide at www.contracostatv.org.
