Free Veterans Business Workshop Series Kicks off March 1

Beginning on Tuesday, March 1, a series of Veterans Business Workshops will begin which will serve as a veterans boot camp for those starting their own business.

The workshops are free and open to veterans. The workshops will be held at the Concord America’s Job Center on each Tuesday between March 1st to April 5th.  All workshops will start at 9:00 am.  No late admittance allowed.

At the conclusion of the workshops – veterans will be able to enter a “pitch contest” where the winner receives a lease agreement and 3-months of free rent at a retail space in Old Town Pittsburg.  You must attend all workshops, or be enrolled in a business curriculum at a college or university to enter the contest.

March 1, 2016: First Steps Workshop
Learn about the attributes of a successful entrepreneur, invaluable sources of information for the nuts and bolts of starting your business including licenses and permits, the business planning process and key information sources for developing your business plan, how to take advantage of the Small Business Development Center’s free and low cost services for your new business, and more! Join us to learn about the key success factors every new business owner needs before starting their venture!

March 8 Jump Start Workshop
Business and strategic planning for existing and aspiring business owners:

  • Learn to effectively articulate your Mission Statement
  • Create a sustainable Vision statement for the future
  • Create an effective strategy to complete stated Goals
  • Begin to develop your quarterly Action Plan

March 15: Financial Planning Workshop Break Even/Start Up/Operational Cost/ Pricing 
Do you know what your start-up or expansion cost are? Learn how figure out your break even point, operational cost and product pricing.

March 22 Financial Planing Workshop Profit and Loss Statements and What It Means to your business. 
How to read your Balance Sheet.

March 29 Customer Identity Target Marketing Workshop
Learn the basic fundamentals of target marketing and how to identify your customer. Are you familiar with the terms; demographics, psychographics and do you know what your NAICS code is? If not, you could be missing out on creating customers daily. Learn how to use research information and materials to sustain your company year round. This workshop is for current and aspiring business owners.

April 4 Business Planning-Executive Summary (1 page plan)
This seminar is an introduction to creating a “One Page Business Plan”. A one-page plan can be used to summarize your business proposition. It also provides an excellent first step to getting your thoughts organized. You can also use this one-page mini-plan to pitch your business idea to potential investors or partners, especially those who don’t have time to read a hefty 30 page proposal.
