Firefighters Turn to Pink!

by ECT

Here is something neat. The CCCFPD firefighters will be wearing PINK! the next two weeks to support National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

October has been declared by Congress to be National Breast Cancer Awareness Month. The American Cancer Society’s most recent estimates for breast cancer in the U.S for calendar year 2012 are over 225,000 new cases. In addition, over 39,000 women will die from this disease. Of all women, 1 in 8 will be diagnosed with breast cancer, so awareness and prevention are key issues. Unfortunately, 1 in 35 women will die from it.

The American Cancer Society estimates in 2012 approximately 2,050 MEN will be diagnosed with breast cancer. Over 400 of them will die this year from the disease. As you can see, breast cancer is not just a women’s disease.

In order to support the American Cancer Society and our communities, for the two-week period of October 8 – 21, 2012, firefighters will be voluntarily wearing PINK T-shirts with the Fire District’s identification on them.
