Firefighters Save Motel from Vegetation Fire in Antioch

At 9:38 am Wednesday, Contra Costa County firefighters responded to a report of a vegetation fire in the 3100 block of E 18th Street in the City of Antioch. While responding, a column of smoke was observed by a battalion chief with East Contra Costa Fire who stated the vegetation fire had spread to a fence and was threatening the Riverview Motel and a storage container.

Crews made quick fire attack and limited damage to the fence, a storage container and a small trailer, none of the buildings were damaged.

Antioch Police assisted in the incident by clearing the buildings and providing traffic control by shutting down the roadway. Crews were on scene for about 90-minutes.

Although at the time of the fire being reported there were multiple loud explosions, the cause of the fire was ultimately undetermined.
