Faulconer Says California Must Focus on Reopening Schools, Not Renaming

by ECT

SAN FRANCISCO, CA – The day after the San Francisco school district delayed a vote on reopening classrooms to instead continue discussing the renaming of 44 schools, former mayor Kevin Faulconer stood in front of Abraham Lincoln High School to urge the safe return of students to classrooms across the state. The former mayor called for action following new guidelines released by the Centers for Disease Control on the safe reopening of schools.

“The CDC, Dr. Fauci, pediatricians, and states across the nation all agree it’s time for schools to safely reopen. But our elitist governor Gavin Newsom continues to sit idly by while he creates an education equality gap that will haunt students for their entire lives,” former Mayor Faulconer said. “Newsom says he will follow CDC guidelines, except when it affects the special interests who helped put him in office.”

Faulconer made the remarks outside one of the schools set to be renamed by the San Francisco school district.

“President Lincoln should be celebrated, not cancelled,” the former mayor said. “They need to stop focusing on renaming schools and start focusing on reopening schools. It’s time to end the political games and get our kids back into class.”

Last week, former mayor Faulconer introduced a website today to give parents, students, teachers and caretakers a chance to voice their frustrations with the lack of action to safely reopen schools. He announced the website with a video message on social media, which can be viewed here. Californians affected by closed schools can share their stories and struggles by going to www.FixCASchools.com.

A parent of two kids in public schools, former mayor Faulconer launched his campaign with a clear focus on education after Newsom’s hastily made reopening plan failed to get kids back in classrooms and was roundly criticized even by his allies.

In recent days Faulconer’s campaign has continued to gain momentum, with endorsements from the majority of Republicans in the California State Assembly and Senate, including the Republican leaders in each chamber.

The 36th mayor of San Diego, Faulconer has earned a reputation for returning ethics and integrity to public service and putting people above politics by focusing on the issues that matter to Californians.

From bringing California’s second largest city back from the brink of bankruptcy, to getting San Diego back on track after it was rocked by a corrupt mayor, to making San Diego the only big city in the state to reduce homelessness, Kevin Faulconer is tested and ready to keep leading. As America’s only big city Republican mayor, he has shown how to turn government around and return its focus to what’s important: serving the public. As Governor of California, Kevin Faulconer will work for us – and restore balance to our state.

Notice how this bag of hot air takes every local issue that makes it into the news and tries to turn it into Newsom’s fault – no matter how absurd. I’m no Newsom fan but Faulconer’s political agenda is nakedly and clumsily evidence.
