Fast Moving 50-Acre Vegetation Fire Prompts Evacuations in City of Martinez

At 3:50 pm Sunday, Contra Costa County Fire Protection District firefighters were dispatched to a vegetation fire on Alhambra Ave near Forest Way in the City of Martinez.

The fire was quickly upgraded to a 2nd alarm response and an evacuation zone was established for the fire which grew to 5-acres.

By 4:14 pm, the evacuation notice was issued:

Immediate Evacuation near Macalvey Drive in Martinez due to Fire

This is a message from Contra Costa County Fire Protection District. Due to rapid moving fire an immediate evacuation has been ordered for areas between Alhambra Avenue and Morello Avenue and between Vine Hill Way and Sunnybrae Drive in Martinez. Leave now and go towards Morello Avenue. Take only those essential items you have ready and can carry with you. Pets must be in a carrier or on a leash. Lock your windows and doors as you leave. Stay off the phone unless you need to report a life-threatening emergency at your location. However, if you are physically unable to leave your home unassisted, call 9 1 1 for help.

By 4:25 pm, the updated evacuation zone was provided by Contra Costa County Fire. They say Alhambra Ave is closed both directions and evacuation zone slightly larger.

Per CALFIRE: Fire at Alhambra Ave. and Forest Way in Martinez (Contra Costa County) is 50 acres, forward progress stopped. Contra Costa County lifted the evacuation orders.
